charles grant retires as Saint
sorry boys...i cant tell give you a web site but sirius nfl radio just reports charles will retire in NO....7 yr deal
here's a link confirming it http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6742422?MSNHPHMA
That's a lot of money. Good we re-signed him though... he's definately the leader of our defense.
Good, I like Grant a lot. When he's going, the D is going.
20mil guaranteed...what does that do to our cap position? I failed calculus 7 in college; is that better or worse than him being franchised? |
I dont know all about the cap situation but I am very excited that we have Grant locked up and do not have to worry about drafting and leveraging this position for next year in case he would have left.
Double dose of good news today. Now we are pretty free to do whatever we want in the draft.
The cap room it frees up should be helpful... as a franchised player, he was counting for something over 8 million against the cap this year. That 20 million will be prorated over the 7 years, so it will be about 2-3 million a year, plus however much he gets per year from the course of the contract (probably another 3 million or so), depending on how the contract is structured. So we probably have an extra 2 million to play with. |
good to see that the Saints locked up Grant. Hopefully, we get DT help in the draft.
the good news just keeps coming !!! Glad we kept grant he a valuable part of the saints D GOOO SANTS !!!!
I told you guys 2 weeks ago that Grant was pleased with the negotiations. Its good to see him get locked up for a long time. Good job by the FO.
Did anyone have any seriously think this wouldn't get done? I'm glad it finally materialized. Kutos to the FO for this and the David deal.
ESPN link, with details on the contract
Would just like to point out, that alot of people were posting comments that we should just get rid of Grant, because he was not acting like a "Payton type of player". I'm glad he got resigned as well, but if this were a game of "Around the Horn", some people would be getting points taken for flip flopping. : )
contract will pay Grant $24 million in its first three years
nearly $35 million in the first five years. 11 million in the next 2 Actual this is not a bad deal 8 mill per for 3 yrs 5.5 mill per for the next 2 7 million average for 5 years. no idea what the other 2 looks like yet. good deal. |
It's a fair deal, it gives the Saints more cap room this year for the June cuts, keeps the continuity of the defense and a very good player in town, and prevents Tampa Bay from getting a very good player in 2008.
Loomis, baybee!!! It's like someone secretly substituted our regular GM crystals with Jim Finks crystals, |
I was happy when I heard it. Everytime the ball is snapped, Charles is chasing the QB or RB. The QB cannot set his feet often, when Charles is chasing him. He is not going to get the sack everytime, but he is always there trying to get it.
I don't know about this. Players seem to play harder in a contract year, and weaker once they get the contract they want. I hope this doesn't hold true for Grant.
Grant is well worth the money he was given..
What gets me is how Benson has been spending money since last season, he's helping in building one hell of a team... The upcoming season looks good for Saint fans |
