Johnson turns down Titans, will retire

Keyshawn Johnson has declined an offer from the Tennessee Titans and has decided to retire. The wide receiver is expected to announce his decision at a Wednesday afternoon news conference.

Sources told ESPN.com that Johnson will pursue a career in television.

Well, I guess we can close the file on that one.

I think eventually he will... he has the numbers... he certainly won't be a first ballot though. It's going to take him quite a few tries before he actually makes it. But if someone doesn't think he will make it, I could also see that side of the argument too.

Do I think he will go? Eventually, yep.

Do I think he should? no. There's a difference between being a Hall of Famer and being famous.

I think a valid arguments can be made for Jimmy Smith, McCardell, Moulds, and Johnson to be Hall of Fame worthy. I think whomever gets pass that 10,000+ 60+ touchdown threshold, has a legitimate chance... but it doesn't necessarily mean they'll make it.

I think Moulds should make the Hall :-D :-D

WhoDat205 05-23-2007 01:24 PM

Let me go on record as saying that I wouldn't vote for him to go to the hall, but since I like to play devil's advocate...

To me the Hall is meant for players who deserve to be remembered for doing something better than anyone else and to serve as a reminder to those that come after them. (No duh, right?) In Keyshawn's case, he was probably one of the best blocking receivers of all time. While his numbers are only slightly above average and he bounced around the league, I do see where you could make a case for him.

However, anyone that gets cut from a team mid-season purely because he's an A-hole dosen't deserve to be enshrined.

That is not going to get him into the Hall of Fame.

I think it was Colin Cowherd who said the first criteria for going to the HOF should be that when the player's name is mentioned you think HOF player. Then you look at his stats.

For me, I don't think HOF when I think of Keyshawn.

"ONE OF the best..." and "devil's advocate"

cadilacin 05-23-2007 11:15 PM

Well Said! Keyshawn Johnson is a nice lil possession receiver. Never great. Always pretty good. He was more famous for his mouth and attitude than his play. "Give Me The Damn Ball"...What? He should have named it: "Let me score a Touchdown...Pleeeease!!"

but seriously. he's a solid player.
