I think Fred Thomas is going to be our #3 cornerback to start the season, but then I wouldn't be surprised to see Usama or Jones move in there soon afterwards. Otherwise it looks pretty good. I like KK being in front of Bullocks; he went backwards last season while KK was leading the NFL in interceptions by a safety.

rsimps6 05-27-2007 12:06 PM

I think they are letting Bushrod backup left tackle and letting Strief backup right tackle. Strief filled in for J. Brown for one game at left tackle last year, but that was out of necessity. I agree with KK over Bullocks as well.

I think Meachem will beat out Copper easily, since Devery plays the "Y" reciever, or the slot, there won't be competition there. Copper is #4. Colston mans the X receiver, Devery the Y, and Meachem is the Z receiver.

Alleman is practicing at LG, not RG, and eventually replaces Nesbit at LG! Nesbit has one year left on his contract and is the weak link on a good offensive line. Alleman beats him out in camp...

I also think Palko will be the #3 for awhile. Martin has way too much experience and already knows the offense. Palko may eventually be our #2 QB, but most QB's take a long time to develop. So on opening day, Martin is no. 2 with Palko maybe taking over next year.

On offense, switch Strief and Bushrod to opposite sides. Archibald is the odd man OUT. Alleman beats out Nesbit. Devery is possible trade bait, and Meacham starts. If Pittman stays, Stecker is out. Jamal Branch will back up Karney. Goodwin may have a challenge from Nesbit as the backup center.

On defense, I am not sure the Saints will sign Wistrom as "NOOSH" explained. Boykin is for whatever reason a "favorite child". Whitehead is getting long in the tooth! Fincher will have a tough time making the team this year. Bullocks starts, but is on a short leash! Reis will make Bellamy expendable and KK will make Gleason look over his shoulder. Mitchell will turn heads and make the team! Thomas bids adieau...bye, bye Freddie! We have a new corner in David, but he is pushed very hard by Usama! Usama is the nickle back.

Special teams, bye, bye beerman! Hanson and Weatherford are in a duel...Weatherford wins.

I also look for the Saints to pick up a few DEFENSE (DT's) players once training camp starts and cuts begin.

forgetting nikovich recovering from injury at de and i feel like branch will stick and steckler go.youth will be served

Call it X receiver, Y, Z, whatever, I don't think Copper starts before Henderson & Meachem.

I did not see Patten listed. If he stays healthy, he makes the team.

Don't we also have a DB in Europe?

I agree with everyone that Freddie should go, but he still practiced with the first team, so who knows? Obviously David will start, so I do not know why he did not get the reps in mini camp

patdog 05-28-2007 12:34 PM

When did we pickup Grant Wistrom?

D24pick 05-29-2007 12:41 AM

I did call it the X,Y,Z receivers, and the whole point was Copper is NOT a starter. You mixed 2 different posts with your explanation, confusing the argument.

X - Colston
Y (slot) - Henderson
Z - Meachem

Bobaganoosh 05-29-2007 12:32 PM

If David Jones and Usama Young make the team, then Fred Thomas is gone. There is no way the saints are going to carry 4 RB's so Branch and Stecker are gone. McKnight will be a practice squad player unless Patton is injured during camp. Trev Faulk is not eligible for the practice squad...and just because the Saints want Grant Wistrom, doesnt mean you should put him on the depth chart just yet.

I responded to the original post, that said Copper would start. My point was that no matter what you call it, no way he is in the starting line-up against the Colts. (Unless we run a 4 wide, and even in that situation, Reggie would probably line up at FL)

That's the whole point. They don't play the same position. They would have to learn each receiver position, which only a few WR's have the capacity to do. There is much more than learning the routes. There are blitz pickups, blocking schemes, hot routes (audibles), etc. and it gets very confusing learning them all for more than one position. The ones who do, are like extra QB's out there (Marvin Harrison comes to mind, since he practices soooo much with Peyton Manning). Henderson lines up in the slot, or Y. Meachem will probably be a flanker, or the Z receiver. So you can't start your slot over your two wide receivers unless you happen to start the game in a weird formation for one play.

I agree with this

I think you can send Craft and any other back up CB on our team from last year packing. The question is can Fred or one of the new guys play the slot? It is a tuff position to play. Unlike the outside CB you do not have the sideline to help you defend against the WR. If a one the new kids can play it then Thomas maybe be gone. That would leave us with alot new faces to gel in the secondary. That alone makes me nervous. But hey they pulled it off last year with the LB and OL. I am really wondering if the Saint should pull the trigger in the supplemental draft and go for broke in redoing the CB group. The more I think about it the more I think they should.

Anyone know if trading in the supplemental is allowed?

The word Predicted in the title should have let everyone know this is what I think is going to happen and if it actually happens this way I'll poo poo my panties.
