I am glad that the reports say Meachem is only going to be out 3 to 4 weeks. What I don't like is how quiet the staff was about this injury. I get very worried when a staff decides to say nothing. When a dudes knee is wrapped in ice, and no one wants to comment, it's usually a sign of bad things. Hopefully, everything is on the level with this. To me, at least on the surface, when coaching staffs refuses to comment it means the dude is out for the year. I sure hope this kid did not really blow out an ACL. I guess by the staff not wanting to comment, it gives the opportunity to put him on IR if he struggles during training camp. Who knows...

Well I remember hearing about when Colston first joined the Saints and the reports were anything but good. But this is an injury and not getting integrated into a new offensive system. But it's not like we're relying on this guy. Don't get me wrong, I would love for him to come and contribute this season. But we're anything but short on receiving threats. But first round picks are valuable. A little off topic but whatever happen to Haas?

Payton added the team was aware Meachem had a possible minor meniscus problem before they selected him in April's NFL Draft.

Relax or go out and cut up a chicken for a vodoo spell or something. Just keep this curse stuff out of it. Me, I did the chicken bit last night and asked for protection in Meachems name. Now I can relax and hope the Saints once again prove they know how to evaluated players before signing them.

METAIRIE, La. --New Orleans Saints first-round pick Robert Meachem aggravated his meniscus in his right knee Sunday morning and missed both Sunday afternoon's minicamp practice and Monday's organized training activity session.

What's more interesting is that Meachem's injury is a pre-existing problem the Saints discovered in the former Tennessee wide receiver's combine report in February. Meachem tore his meniscus in fall camp with the Volunteers in 2003, forcing him to redshirt his first year in college.

The 6-foot-2 rookie had his knee examined Monday afternoon and Saints coach Sean Payton said he'd know more about the extent of the injury today.

"We just want to have it looked at to see where it's at before we do anything," Payton said. "I don't want to send him back out here by overdoing it either."

The banged-up meniscus adds another item to the list of physical troubles for the No. 27 overall pick in April's draft since coming to New Orleans for rookie minicamp in mid-May.

Meachem struggled through the Saints' rookie minicamp as he arrived to the Crescent City admittedly overweight and out of shape from making trips to numerous NFL facilities leading up to the NFL draft. Then midway through the weekend he tweaked his left ankle during practice.

He said he had dropped at least 10 pounds and he was down to 218 pounds going into the Saints full-squad minicamp. Meachem took part in the first four minicamp sessions before sitting out the final practice.

Payton didn't go as far as to say he's concerned with Meachem's durability, but he is alarmed by not having Meachem on the field so early in his rookie campaign.

"Anytime you're not able to practice or don't take reps, you get concerned," Payton said. "I don't know as much about his durability, just the fact that he's a young player who is missing time. It's hard when that happens. Obviously, I'm concerned in that he's not getting his reps and not getting the work team. Hopefully he's on the field sooner than later."

Meachem wasn't available for comment during the open locker room period Monday.

In other injury news, safety Steve Gleason had his right knee scoped Monday and Payton said he'd know more about the severity of the injury today. Gleason didn't participate in the weekend minicamp because of the injury.

Weakside linebacker Scott Shanle was limited in Monday's OTA session as he had a protective sleeve on his right leg. Payton said he just wanted to rest Shanle following the five-practice weekend.

"Especially after a couple two-a-days, some of these veteran guys we back off a little bit rep-wise and get some of the younger guys in and so there are a number of guys we did that with," Payton said.

Linebacker Brian Simmons missed Monday's OTA session and will be out the rest of the week due to a death in the family.

Fourth-round selection Antonio Pittman is scheduled to practice for the first time since rookie minicamp in mid-May. The former Ohio State running back was not allowed the work out with the team because of school conflicts.

Camp confusion - The Saints are denying a report made in a Jackson, Miss., newspaper last week that the team is seeking $600,000 in improvements to Millsaps College in order for the team to return for training camp this summer.

Saints vice president of communications Greg Bensel coined the story "very inaccurate" and "dead wrong."

Millsaps trustee Con Maloney said a closed-in practice facility costing about $450,000 was one of several demands made by the Saints. Bensel said no such demands were made and that it's more likely than not that the Saints will spend training camp in Jackson for the second consecutive year.

The team did want to improve the natural grass on Millsaps' upper fields. Bensel said the changes already are being made and the Saints are paying for them, not Millsaps.

He was a late cut and got picked up by the Bears. I really liked the pick last year, but if he couldn't beat out Jones...

The thing about Meachum is that he was a BPA pick, which means we didn't really NEED a WR at that pick, but we could use a tall speedy guy. If he ran a 4.39 with a bruised knee I would like to know what he can do when completely healthy.


Now, the difference between Meachum and Stallworth is that Stallworth was a need when we drafted him. We NEEDED him to come in and succeed, so we did not allow for his injuries to heal. Meachum is able to sit and learn under Colston, Henderson, and (Have we all forgotten)------> David Patten, not to mention Jammal Jones, Terrance Copper, Rhemea McKnight. WR is stacked with various playmakers, and while Meachum will be called upon to be the go to number two guy it may not be early this year.
