For those who were worried about the depth at DT, there you go.

i just saw where arizona released him with two others and thought, hey, maybe the saints will look at him.............you never know.........

LongTimeFan 06-07-2007 09:44 PM

The defence is coming together really good, I love this move on the Saints part...
Loomis has been making some great decisions the last couple of years..

Keep up the good work...........

The Saints will be tough in the NFC this year...

Yo, this kid is no light weight, he can flat out play. I saw this young man in action a few times and he can really bring something to our defense, I very happy with this pick up.

I wanted him last year before the Cards signed him. I hope the contract is not as large as he signed in 06. We must have been close to getting him last year with the speed of signing after his release. He was a key cog to a great DL in 05 for NYG. I really like this signing. He should fit in nicely with our attacking style of play on the DL. Ok I am a bit giddy on this one.

Great, great pickup. My guess is that he immediately moves in front of L & L and spells Hollis and Young.

As far as I'm concerned, we are now 100% ready for the opener.

Just engrave the name 'Clancy' on that last Super Bowl ring...

The Saints, apparently attempting to shore up the interior of their defensive line, signed free-agent defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy to a three-year, $5.2 million contract Thursday.

Clancy's deal also includes incentives and workout bonuses, Del Duca said.

Hmmm. Pretty nice $$ for a backup.

I still love this move

1.4 is a fair value for a proven DT. espically when we use a rotation syatem like we do. Now the 2+ he got in the 06 contract was a bit high.
Look for the inside pressure into be much better this year. Teams may want to use no huddle more against us so they do not have to face the rotation. LOL I love saying that.

He must have wanted out of the desert very bad. The Cardinals asked him to take a pay cut, he refused, was cut and within two days signed for a lower amount (pay cut) with the Saints! HMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

papz 06-08-2007 10:38 AM

He probably wouldn't have seen as much playing time over there with Dockett, Branch, and Watson. I bet that was the reason why he refused to take a pay cut... so they could release him and sign elsewhere.

I agree with the assessment, however, he might not get much more playing time with the Saints. Rotation and depth is what Loomis commented as the rationale for the signing. Don't get me wrong, a good signing and it does add depth...the rationale does not add up right now.

I think also he's got a better chance at making the play offs in New Orleans than in AZ... that was strange to say...

I found a little more information that adds some clarity to my comments...

CLANCY SIGNS FOR THREE YEARS, $5.2 MILLION

A league source tells us that the contract between the Saints and defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy is for three years, and is worth $5.2 million.

Clancy will receive $1.5 million in the first year of the deal, via salary and bonus money. The payout matches the salary he would have earned in 2007 with the Cardinals. In 2008, he's due to receive a base salary of $1.6 million and a workout bonus of $250,000. The base salary in year three is $1.8 million, with a $150,000 workout bonus.

Under the deal with the Cardinals, he would have earned $4.6 million over the next three seasons.

The Saints were Clancy's first stop on a four-team tour. He liked what he saw and opted to sign on the dotted line.

Good because I had no clue what you were implying up there. So basically he left for a greener pasture and a better chance to win. Smart man.

Can any of you actually say that you would live to see the day when players would want to truely come to the Saints.

These are good days we are livin' in bro's!

saintsrule 06-08-2007 01:43 PM

I knew that they would try to fill the position, if they felt that they need to. I think they know what areas of the team need to be upgraded.
