Browns Cut some Good Prospects

Scott Stephenson
#63 | Center | Iowa State Cyclones Roster
Height:6-4 Weight:305
Previous School:University of Minnesota
Hometown:St. Paul, Minnesota

The good: Stephenson has a solid build, has good lateral quickness and plays with leverage. He’s quick off the snap and gets into blocking position well. Although relatively new at center, Stephenson demonstrates the awareness and intelligence his position requires to pick up blitzes and stunts. He’s scrappy, competitive and aggressive and he’s made significant progress at his position. He has drawn comparisons to Indianapolis Colts center Jeff Saturday for his quickness and the intelligence with which he plays his position.

The bad: Only played two years at center after converting from defensive tackle, so he’s raw and his needs to improve his technique. He doesn’t have overpowering strength and is seen as a finesse blocker. He only recorded 21 bench press reps at the combine and ran a 5.21 40-yard dash.

Outlook: Though raw, he still has the physical skills to be an effective player. He has a high upside and should get better as he refines his technique. He projects to a second day selection, but figures to make rapid progress.

Brent Pousson 6-3 305,5.23, McNeese State

Good size and very athletic. Moved from guard to tackle his junior season. Potentially could be looked at to play center in the NFL.

Antonio Perkins
DB, 5-11, 194, Oklahoma NFL Experience: 3

In 47 games with Oklahoma University, Perkins started 30 times and finished with 125 tackles, one sack, five stops for losses, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 21 pass deflections. He was selected by the Browns in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. The Browns waived Perkins on October 28, 2006 but subsequently re-signed him and assigned him to their practice squad. He set the NCAA record for most punt returns for touchdowns, with three, against UCLA in 2003. He is tied with Wes Welker for most punt return touchdowns in a career, in NCAA history, with 8.

Not a bad group to fight for PS. Perkins was a bit of a surprise and a disappointment. worth a look at maybe
