Charles Grant Spending his Chedda'

Snippet from King's MMQB today:

3. I think the best story I've heard in a while is about a guy not forgetting where he was. In Saints camp on the last day of the offseason program, defensive end Charles Grant called over the club's vice president of communications, Greg Bensel, handed him a wad of $100 bills -- 20 to be exact -- and told him he wanted to buy lunch for all the women who work in the team offices. "Can you make it happen?'' Grant asked Bensel. He did, handing the $2,000 to GM Mickey Loomis' administrative assistant, who organized the luncheon field trip for the 20 women in the building. Way to remember where you came from, Charles.

but would it have been better spent on a charity than on a bunch of women who have jobs already and can afford there own lunch? He was trying to impress some chick???

Geez dude. The man just signed a $9 Million a year contract. Him dropping $2,000 for lunch is like me spending $10 on one of the ladies I work with (I did the math). Even if it were to impress a lady, it's his money, not to mention he could have taken just that one girl out instead of the entire office.

As for Grant's charity work:

Here's a story about his foundation, the S.A.C.K. Success Foundation:

Read this story the other day and had some questions about it (why just the women? was it the last day of the camp mentioned close to Mother's day? did he say something rude to some of the staff? etc...), but you know what? It's done.

Even a little generosity is generous. Reckon I should be more worried about how he's coming off the edge than how he spends his pocket change.

Double Geeez!! Yes, we should be waaaay more worried about how the team performs on the field... Like you wouldn't do the same thing?? ;)

I'm sure the people behind the scenes get overlooked all the time in professional sports. It's a nice gesture. Take it for what it was intended.

TheDeuce 06-18-2007 11:18 PM

Yeah the guy did a nice thing for some people who don't get any credit for the organization's success. Classy Charles, very classy.

By the way, I'm going to go ahead and use this forum to reiterate how awesome Charles Grant is. I always blabber on about how he brings the energy to our defense, and I usually say some stuff about his solid statistics. But there was one thing I came across today that I hadn't realized. The guy has started every game since he's been a Saint. You know he gets banged up and stuff, but he brings it every Sunday. This guy is a stud, and I'm glad he's in the black and gold. That is all.

100 dollars a plate for 20 people is a great meal. nice deal. You got to remember the office grunts. His paper work wont get lost anytime soon.
Yep he is an old school type of player.

Well said. Grant made a nice gesture and didn't advertise it.

On a related story before DOGgate broke:

Michael "what a long summer" Vick donated $10,000 to the victim's families at Va Tech, his alma mater. People here in ATL went ballistic that he donated such a small amount.

My thought was, the families were not victims of a natural disaster or fire. Money was not needed, as was and is the case with Katrina, or Hugo, or now in Texas. The amount he gave didn't bother me, but the fact he didn't do it anonymously was just stupid.

Euphoria 06-19-2007 02:17 PM

office grunts ok... but why just the women?

jergensl 06-19-2007 04:47 PM

euph,
just shut up!

he was doing a nice thing for the ladies in the office.

were you not hugged enough as a child?
are you mad that grant didnt take you out to dinner?

just be happy that we do not have players going to jail and getting arrested.

Now that was rude!!!!! And totally uncalled for! Unless of course you were just kidding. If not hold you tongue. That isn't needed.

mighty12 06-19-2007 05:38 PM

Do we not have a "Just ShutUp" award? LMAO! That is alittle rude though, but I like doing the award. Let's get that started to make it through the offseason. Who do you think should get a "Just Shutup" award in Louisiana sports? That would be a good poll.

It wasn't rude. Euphoria is annoying, continiously putting down anything Saints, case and point Grant buying lunch for the ladies in the office, and answering every other post with "power rankings".

jergensl 06-19-2007 06:23 PM

joesam,

was my comment rude...yes...did i mean it to be...yes...why...because it was called for.

grant, behind the scenes, did a very nice thing for people who get very little respect and euph had the nerve to try to turn it into a negative.

so do i think that a guy taking an incredible positive thing and trying to turn it into a negative deserves a rude comment....absolutely!

JOESAM2002 06-19-2007 07:29 PM

To bad, it's too close to an attack on a fellow member. You know that's not allowed. So please chill. I too think what Grant did was a class act and i'm all for it but this is an open forum and telling anyonne to shut up is just plain wrong. That's just the way it is! If I have to I will take further steps to correct this and I really don't want to.
