Gulf Coast Formations

Considering all the weapons we now have on offense, the multiple formations and use of personnel could baffle even McCarthy himself. With a healthy group now seasoned we may see several offensive sets from our Gulf Coast yet to be seen. Three or even four tight ends in on the same play. Conwell in the fullback position or H-back slot with Boo spit outside and Sloan and a 4th TE at the standard TE spots on each side. You could run with power of course, pass (possibly sending sloan or duece in motion), or a TE screen from this lineup. With Duece and Terrelle Smith in the I-formation we may see Conwell lined up next to smith or in motion or as an h-back or in the slot with Sloan as the TE. How about a 5 WR set with all receivers, Horn, Stallworth, Pathon, Derick Lewis, Michael Lewis or a mix with Duece split outside and/or a few of the tight ends split out or stacked. With Brooks making quick reads and taking what the defense allows (message to AirRun: Run/Slide, Run Out of Bounds every chance you get...limit the backpeddling) his completion percentage will go up and we will play better down and distance situations. Defenses will have to respect his willingness to run up the middle and won't be able to let it loose which should keep them honest on passing downs allowing for adequate pocket protection. Screen passes to Duece, the receivers, and the TEs will have the same effect. Don't be supprised to see an extra lineman in the TE position from time to time. Depth, Talent and Experience we now have. A healthy group all the way with the guys we have will allow for us to create mismatches and confussion to the oppostion all year. With just a slight improvement in production on both sides of the ball the Saints will dominate time of possession and opponents at times this year with some rather large margins of victory (BlowOuts!). Thirty days to T it Up in the Pre!
