Dhani Jones

I just heard John Clayton reporting on ESPN radio in Austin that the Saints are close to signing a 1 year deal with Dhani Jones. Anyone else heard more on this? What do yall think if we sign him? I don't know much about him other that what I have seen of him on NFL Network TV.

I can't find anything on my usual sites but that doesn't mean it's not true. He's be a good addition I think.

Euphoria 06-30-2007 05:58 PM

He's been arrested back in March 26, 2006.

now for the whole story

Jones was arrested on March 26, 2006, in Miami, Florida. He was charged with "failure to obey a lawful command" after he refused police orders to stop dancing in the street outside a South Beach nightclub, the Snatch Rock & Roll Bar and Lounge. Others who were dancing at the same location complied with the police orders, and were not arrested.

now that is not so bad. he can do that here all night long.

in Phili he was playing out of position. If he comes in at the weakside LB position, I think it will be a good pickup.

jergensl 06-30-2007 07:13 PM

he would be a great addition

i hope this is true

The stats below are of the bowtied one Dhani Jones, I haven't found a tie between him and the Saints, but if it's true he would be a capable backup.
He's still not my ex-eagle of choice (Darwin Walker is my choice).

would be a backup, i would also rather walker

lumm0x 07-01-2007 11:25 AM

Agreed. Like him for depth and that's it. He's not proven himself to be a difference maker as a starter.

o1higuy 07-01-2007 12:24 PM

Clayton was saying the same thing that he would be a great depth player who could start if need be. I haven't heard anything else about it. I do know they were discussing a 1 year deal. Don't know for how much.

TheDeuce 07-01-2007 01:01 PM

I'm all for it. I've always liked Dhani Jones

Bobaganoosh 07-01-2007 01:03 PM

I think it is time you guys gave up on Darwin Walker...the Saints just paid Hollis Thomas and Charles Grant big money this offseason...I know everyone here wants them to pay Will Smith and lock him in for the next 6 years...and that is going to cost more than what the other two guys got. And now you all want Darwin Walker?? The same guy who wants megabucks from the Bills?? The same guy the Eagles basically gave away because they didnt think he was worth the money he is looking for? I think its time to hop off of that train and start thinking realistic.

To give up on the thought of signing one of the best pass rushing DTs in the league for the last few years is not how Championship teams operate. Brian Young is the only pass rushing DT on the roster that comes close to Walker's ability, that's why he's not that effective in the fourth quarter, he's just simply wore down. Hopefully DT Lance Legree can fill that pass rushing void that we lost when we released Whitehead, but please don't get it twisted, we need a pass rush up the middle to get more one on one match ups against our ends. Hell man, you think any team in this league wants to face a front four consisting of Grant, Walker, Young, and Smith, I don't think so, the Saints wouldn't even have to blitz, and when they do, someone's gonna break free.

So are you saying we should give the big money to Walker and have Hollis Thomas just count his money on the sideline? I dont understand how you can expect the Saints to just waste the money they just paid thomas to take on another big contract from Darwin Walker. Not to mention, the Saints just shelled out another 5 million to Kendrick Clancy. So your point is that we should have 4 DT's on the roster making big money. And all that for a guy who has refused to show up this offseason for 2 different teams. If thats your opinion, thats fine, i am not bashing you...it just doesnt seem to add up to me.

WhoDat205 07-02-2007 12:34 PM

Boba: do you have any inside info on Dhani?

First of all, Thomas and Clancy are run stuffers, Walker is (for the last time) a pass rushing DT. Now, please take a minute and look at the roster(I'll wait), how many pass rushing DTs do you see? One(Young), possibly two(Legree) that's it. If you look at Brian Young in the fourth quarter of games last year, he seems to be exhausted, tired, and not as effective as he is in the first three quarters, and that's when we had Whitehead as his backup, how ineffective do you think he's going to be if Legree don't pan put. The reports on why he didn't want to show up at the Bills camp is not entirely about money, it also involved a multi year deal. If it was all about the money he wouldn't have turned down the one year $1.5 mil and become a FA next year, your not that familiar with Walker but I am, this kids a BEAST in the middle, basically destroying the pocket. It might not make any sense to you and that's your opinion, but it makes all the sense in the world to me, with Walker and Young rotating from that position, your looking at a possible 12 to 15 sacks and endless pressure from the DT position, and that my friend is how you win SUPERBOWLS.

Euphoria 07-02-2007 06:42 PM

...and that is also your opinion as well.

BlackSaint, how many Super Bowls have you won?

About as many as you have.

Bobaganoosh 07-03-2007 12:28 PM

Hey, i understand you want to add as many players as possible...and what i am telling you that monetarily, it doesnt make sense. You cant pay someone the kind of money he is looking for to be a sub with Brian Young. I think the rotation with Young, Thomas, Clancy and Lake will be just fine. You throw in the others guys in Leisle and Legree and that is pretty much what you are going to have on this team. I would like you to name one team in the NFL that has more than 2 million dollars invested in 4 different DT's. Aside from Denver, i dont think there is one. You just cant shell out money to everyone, especially the kind of money Walker wants. The only way I can even imagine that move making sense would be if they cut Brian Young...and that doesnt make a lot of sense.

And as far as Dhani Jones, i dont have any info, because everyone is on vacation right now.

CheramieIII 07-03-2007 04:18 PM

Time for some crap talk!

Walker wants way to much money and obviously is not the type player the coaching staff wants (not showing up for 2 separate teams).

I've won 3 Superbowls, so there!

fishdaddy 07-03-2007 06:13 PM

Imho

I think somebody has a man crush on Walker. Adding another quality DT is always a good thing, but you have to watch your cap. We will have to pay big money soon to keep some of our on. It also sounds like he might not be a team playa. It appear most people on here as well as myself, feel they have enough of a rotation to keep legs fresh for the season. Hollis, when fresh and healthy, can collapse a pocket in a hurry. I hope it doesn't come down to this but after Tank come off suspension if we need help, he could be taken with a much lower price tag. And that is if he can keep his nose clean for that long and prove to Payton that he wants to put the team first.

fishdaddy 07-03-2007 06:16 PM

I forgot to mention.

I have 2 Superbowl MVPs.
