I hope the Saints sign him, if they feel they can use his services on the team. Also if he wants to play with the Saints. I knew he wasn't drinking and driving, from the start. He was pulled over for another reason, and that can happen anywhere. I would think that he and Hollis would be good DTs in the second half of the season.

lynwood 07-05-2007 03:27 PM

This reminds me of the good ole AB threads. Well in my opinion I don't care if we get him or not. From the looks of it Payton will not put up with any BS so he'd be on a short leash. If we pass on him for character issues I'm fine with that too. By the time he's able to play after 8 games, our D-unit will have gelled and should be working together nicely. Unless injuries are abundant there wouldn't be a need for him and why throw him in 8 games into the season?

You know, I was thinking the SAME thing! LOL! By the way, Lynwood, nice to see you around! Now if we just had Saints08 to throw fuel to the fire! Ha!

Be careful what you wish for! LOL

P.S. Maybe while we're at it we can bring Billy back too?

CheramieIII 07-05-2007 06:38 PM

Billy who? Is that the dude who loved that one QB who is related to that one QB who likes to fight dogs or something like that. Saying his name is bad luck. Is he a practice squad QB for the Rams now?

Saints08 could show up at anytime? tick, tock, tick, tock.............

Where in the hell you at 8?

Frankly, I don't care but someone else might, and we all know who that is. LOL

*sigh* Try again. Unless you didn't say the bolded words. Again, teams don't "announce" anything about NOT being interested in a player unless asked, and most times they don't answer directly when they are asked. In YOUR example of Marineli, he was ASKED. So exactly like said, teams don't go around just making it known who they AREN'T interested in. Just FYI also, people called BS on that LJ nonsense too. Back to the drawing board.

As far as trying to make you look like an "uninformed fan," you're taking yourself too seriously. It's a message board. I don't know you, and don't need to form an opinion of you. Ease back.

I've already proclaimed that I don't take these discussions seriously, but thanks for your advice, Dr. Phil. You called me lame. I handed you the obligatory smartass response, and moved on with my life. I've been debating with you every day since my first thread here, and thought nothing of it.

I have far more pressing and downright macabre issues to deal with on a daily basis. I've attempted to start threads on issues that would help me get to know others, and avoid disagreements. Keeping things light, if you will. You're right about one thing:
You do not know me.

Bears | Test results didn't influence decision on T. Johnson
Thu, 5 Jul 2007 11:42:46 -0700

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said the results of the blood test to see if unrestricted free-agent DT Tank Johnson (Bears) was driving under the influence had no impact on their decision to release Johnson. "We weren't basing it off the police report because we made the decision prior to that. We had a zero-tolerance policy and he crossed the line. That line was very clear to everybody and it was made very clear to him. We made it very clear to him that he had no room for error. It's unfortunate, but we did the right thing for our football team," Angelo said.

I wonder how much the Bears being a powerful defensive team, and having an abundance of good DTs played into their short leash with Tank. Just sayin...

WillMacKenzie 07-05-2007 09:53 PM

I think Tank's about as solid as Hollis Thomas. Which is pretty good, and I'd like to see that rotation to keep legs fresh. But, like everyone else says, New Orleans isn't the most innocent place for a rich famous personality. Especially in light of NFL crackdowns.

Though you can always sit him down point blank as a coach and say look Tank, we want to win games and superbowls - you have a chance to do that here with a clean slate. That being said, if you so much as ALMOST screw up - you're out.

People CAN change, and being surrounded by positive high character teamates can only help him that much more to be a man of integrity. I'm on a tight leashed Tank bandwagon, though I'd rather see more depth at strong safety.

Euphoria 07-06-2007 12:26 AM

so part of the contract stipulates that he doesn't reside in New Orleans. Just practice, games and then get the hell out of NO, and oh yeah don't visit your Grandmother in AZ.

For what it's worth I would welcome BC back. He kept it interesting. Same with 08, Whodat, whowatches, saintfan, tweeky (the big troublemaker) and more from BlackandBlue, Lumm0x, Lkelly and many more.

Bobaganoosh 07-06-2007 02:01 AM

The word i get from the people i know, is that Tank Johnson is completely off limits. He is not even worth discussion. The whole point is that Tank is talented, but he has been in trouble more than once...he has done jail time...he still put himself in position to get in trouble again. He is the complete opposite type of "person" the Saints want to bring in. I thought that would be obvious to everyone on this board who has been praising the type of "person" this FO has brought in to make the team better.

Yeah, that Tweeky, while extremely witty, bright, knowledable, and devilishly handsome and sexxxxy, was trouble, no question.

papz 07-06-2007 07:58 AM

ROFL Danno. Yeah I'm sure of it also.

Imho

Since everyone is adding their opinion. Here is mine. First I think Tank is a thug, I could be wrong though. I say that just from what I see and read. Let's see, He has pitbulls (which can be great dogs ask Vick), owned a bunch of unregistered gun (I bet not the kind past down from generations or hunting guns), and his bodyguard was shot (not that Tank is in danger from being assasinated because he is a world leader). I'm willing to forget about drinking and driving incident at 3am in AZ. Now that is how I came up with MY opinion. The Saints built this team with certain playas, good character guys that contribute on and off the field. Good locker room guys and guys our youth can look to as role models. And that is what it should be to be a Saint. I don't think the team should comprimise that. The Patriots did this for years and won campionships. Now I know some of you will say "yeah but they just signed Randy Moss", yeah they did. But after establishing themselves as a no tolerance organization. And I also don't think he has been in as much trouble with the law as Tank. The Saints need to compete for championships (hopefully win one) for a few years. Then playas will know if they sign with the Saints there is no tolerance for misconduct, if so out the door. That has been one reason the Pats have been successful they play for each other. They play as a team. You are no good to your team if you are suspended for violating team rules or the law. That makes you selfish and not a team playa. I'm not trying to pursuade anyone, this is just my opinion. I rather see the Saint be a competative team for a long time with good guys. Than win one superbowl with thugs and continue to be bad. No one will sign here because they are mentioned in the same breath as Vick, Bengles, Mac Man, and Tank.

fishdaddy 07-06-2007 03:07 PM

I agree whole-heartedly with that last part, Danno.

jnormand 07-06-2007 05:44 PM

Bottom line is this: Coach P is not going to sign him if he believes that Tank is going to have "off the field issues". He wants positive locker room presence and positive off the field presence.

Someone posted it earlier...if Coach P believes in him, than I'll take his word for it. If he dosen't....it is probably for the best.

The most important point should be irrelevant so we can sign Dirty Harry Johnson. Didn't his bodyguard get killed while in his employ? Lordy, pass already.

We sign Tank because we didn't sign Walter Thomas. If we could bring big Walt for a looksee which lasted for a few minutes then certainly we could've signed Tank yesterday. I think that's a goodnuff reason.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/couch...greg11.article

An article from the Chicago Sun-Times on the report from Tank's arrest. I'm not looking to continue the discussion here, but it was an interesting article and showed a lot about the what kind of person Johnson really is.

BlackandBlue 07-14-2007 02:14 PM

tweeky annoyed me :P

Billy will never be back, I can assure you. The only other person that will never be back is 08, and that suits me just fine.

wheelman 07-14-2007 04:39 PM

Damn dude, that's the first time I've seen you post in forever and you're already laying down the law. LOL

And I remember lurking these boards a couple months before Billy "left". From what I saw, no one here particularly liked him.

BlackandBlue 07-14-2007 05:46 PM

I went on an extended hiatus, but like every good virus, I'm back ;)

I liked him. I thought he was an excellent poster. Yes, he was a bit controversial, but a solid poster nonetheless.

JOESAM2002 07-14-2007 06:58 PM

BNB,back? Damn, where you been man? Thought we lost you. Good to have you back for a few minutes. LOL. So we now have Saintfan,Danno,BNB wow it's old home week at B&G. Think I should order some walkers for all us oldies? We need you guys back, the newbies might try to take over.lol.

spkb25 07-15-2007 12:51 PM

yeah have to say i would not mind signing the guy. the whole dwi doesn't worry me. to me it is a bs charge. basically the guy passed their test and then they tried to charge him with something else. so basically we have a legal limit and if you are not over that we are still going to charge you. whole lot of non-sense.

euph yeah you can stop someone from trying to put food on their table. happens everyday. i do not think this recent incident warrants the type of coverage it received.

Boogro 07-15-2007 02:57 PM

I say no to the signing. There is a good group of character guys on this team and this guy has no character. Why sign a guy if you are not going to know if he's going to be there for you week to week barring injuries? Especially, if he is already having problems with the personal conduct policy. Also, New Orleans is the best place to get drunk and get shot at. Being that Tank had problems with those two in the past, I say no.

I don't trust him and I doubt anyone on this team would trust him, so why bother? Walter Thomas got a shot as an undrafted free-agent. Probably didn't even receive a signing bonus and was cut 12 minutes into the first practice of rookie minicamp. I don't care how big or good he is. Bad character and bad decisions hurt the team and we don't need either.

WillMacKenzie 07-15-2007 07:51 PM

I'd rather see some studs signed at linebacker. They'd help the defense all-around

SaintPauly 07-16-2007 09:50 PM

My two cents: Have we looked at every player on the Saint's roster? Dug up their past, and looked at their criminal records? Out of that many guys, I'll bet dollars to donuts, that "Tank" wouldn't be the only one on the team with indiscretions. Major or minor, a record, is a record. And by the way, what is a "Peyton type of player" anyway? Where did that phrase come from? He's been our coach for.... one season, and he's already got a specific type of player that fits his system, and anyone who's right outside the box, is basically black balled? Is this a football team, or a cult? : )

JOESAM2002 07-16-2007 10:29 PM

Geeez StPaul,Who got your wheaties? You haven't had anything nice to say tonight. That's unlike you. Smile, the season starts soon and we all still like you.

SaintPauly 07-17-2007 01:22 AM

BlueDevil1978 07-17-2007 12:14 PM

We've got 12 pages on this thread and no Tank. Anymore dead horse beating here and we're just breaking bones.

ScottyRo 07-17-2007 01:59 PM

Funny thing is on NFL Live yesterday Tank came up and Clayton mentioned the Saints AGAIN as a possibility.

What is that guy smoking? He should be made to clarify that he is just spouting possibilities from the hip and not announcing that there is any real possibility based on actual team interest.

CheramieIII 07-17-2007 06:19 PM

For 250k why not, as long as he is in shape for the last 8 games.

WillMacKenzie 07-17-2007 08:16 PM

very few people annoy me more than John Clayton on ESPN. Firstly, he looks like a baby buzzard that hasn't gotten all his feathers yet, secondly he spouts off this nonsense statistics know-it-all garbage that he goes through every night with a fine-toothed comb. He needs a rectalcranialectomy to surgically remove his head from the nfl player's a**es

saintfan 07-17-2007 08:27 PM

John Clayton has an agenda. Muah hah ha ha ha....
