He might be bigger than ARCHIE??
I am so thankful that he is a Saint. With all the work him and his wife is putting into the city, and numbers on the field who knows. Read this article
Brees becomes new patron Saint in New Orleans http://www.usatoday.com/sports/footb...ew-brees_N.htm |
Very good article, really enjoyed reading it. Our Saints have represented themselves, the organization, the city, and our communities with such class that you can't help but be PROUD of them. Bless You Boys!!!
|
Here we go an attempt to compare Manning to Brees???
Comparing the 2 ought to be banned forever by any Saints fans. Why do we care who is the better of the 2... They are both great, Archie is a legend Saints QB if not by numbers by our hearts. Brees will be come a legend in his own right, there is no need to argue who is the best Saints QB. |
yea euphoria ur right.......... its brees, even though it was just one year!
|
I have to agree with Euph on this one. They are both very special. Archie's just been doing it longer and without all the fan fare.Drew got here at the right time and Lord knows what he and his wife have done. They are truly wonderful people. Archie's been around for ever doing things to help the people and city of New Orleans. So let's give the both credit where credits due.

ditto joe sam

Joe and Euph could not have been more right.
There is no way to compare the two. Drew, (while I do love the guy) has only been here for a year, and will in time make his own legacy. Not any less or better than Archie. |
When he leads 53 men to a Superbowl win, even Archie will say he's bigger than Archie.
He's almost too good to be true. If it wasn't for the fact that he's been the same great person thru high school, college and the pro's, it would be hard to believe what a great guy he truly is. Is there another QB playing today that you'd rather have? Peyton Manning perhaps? I think it would be a really close race between Manning and Brees at this point. Manning would probably still get the nod, but it would be a lot closer than many would think. |

Everyone of us already knows that Brooks is the best QB that has ever or will ever play for the Saints! |
Oh now are we comparing Brees to Payton Manning... give me a break.
|
Might? Archie captured the hearts of the locals, Drew captures the hearts of the local and the nation. nuff said!!
|
To clarify...

Drew Brees is an exremely popular player right now. Archie is one of the most popular of all time. Comparisons are obvious. Drew Brees is a perfect QB for Payton's system. PEyton Manning is considered the best QB in the game right now, and is from New Orleans. Comparisons are obvious. |
Here we go again. We've got people telling others what they should not be discussing on the forum even though it is well within the forum rules and dead on topic being about Saints players and all. Euph, this is what fans do. Maybe not all fans, but here are plenty that do for probably all sports and there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't want to engage in it, the ignore it altogether.
I think it is always going to be tough to compare Drew to Archie because of the difficulty I see in comparing players from different eras. Comparing Peyton and Drew would be much easier. I think Peyton's still got the advantage here, but a few years of seasons like last season that might start to change. |

I think Peyton would still win, but I think the margin would surprise. I'd say probably 60/40 Manning. One year ago it would have been 95/5. |
Brees, in the long run, may be BIGGER than Archie. (Isn't that what this topic thread is about? Renown/Fame?) Though, bigger doesn't always mean better.
Either way, Archie was before my era, so I was born into being an Archie fan. However, Brees is playing before my eyes, so it's easy to see how I may value him more than Archie. I'm only 22, so all I know are stories about Archie. Now, I'm not even going to get into who's better/more talented. That debate is pure silliness. Football has changed tremendously since then. I don't care either way. |
...not yet, but should the Saints experience 2-3 more seasons like 2006, and his off field work , he will be bigger than Archie.
...if you think about it, Archie is beloved because of what he meant to a young Saints organization in a pure emotional way: he's the guy with all the skill in the world, who for most of his career had no one with any skill around him, who got his brains beaten onto the ground every other play every Sunday, yet he got up every time and gave it his best shot again, and again... .. Drew, on the other hand, not only lead the Saints to an NFC championship, but came to town after one of the most devastating natural disasters in US history, not only bringing confidence to the football team, but the entire city and state, immediately moving his family to town, declaring N.O. his home, and immediately became active in the recovery process. In the end, it is not an Archie vs Drew thing; you need not forget one to laud the other.. it is merely that given Archie's situation then, vis a vis Drew's situation now, it is hard not come to the conclusion that, should all things remain relatively equal in the near future, when it is all said and done, Drew will be bigger than Archie, but in no way, shape, or form, will that negate what Archie means to Saints fans and the city alike. |
Gosh! Next some will say they are pleased we have Brees instead of Brooks. Then they will be accused of comparing Brees to Brooks.
No seriously folks. Brees is a fantastic capture for the Saints, and the city of New Orleans. On the field he has stepped up and given the team a solid foundation to recruit further, to generate an offense to be proud of, to inspire other Saints to do the best they can. Off the field, Brees has embraced New Orleans, seemingly understanding the mentality of the city and giving hope to those who had never believed there was such a thing. |
i think thats well put UK.
|
My point is that if you want to compare QB's do it with Brees against other QB's that is currently playing in the NFL and not past legends. All this doesn is divide Saints fans.

I think if the issue of who is ultimately more popular between two great men becomes devisive, then there are a whole lot of stupid people following Saints football. Both are great legends and great human beings. I guarantee you Archie, Drew and even Peyton are honored to be compared to each other. I simply cannot fathom this being a devisive issue among mature Saints fans on any level. |
The bigger QB is Archie Manning, 6'3 to Bree's 6'0
