m. mariscal is outpunting mitch berger in training camp.....we've already signed mitch to a 5 yr deal......do we take the lost and go with the rookie? i say if the kid has it they may.....although punters are'nt too hard to come by, a good one can get you out of tight spots.....a good young one and you're set for yrs.......what is the opinion? smitty

I\'m curious. Is this kid out-punting Berger - when there\'s a defense on the field?

i say cut berger, but if the loss is to substantial moneywise then they got to keep him, but eithe rway im sure the punting situatuion will be fine

Hasn\'t there been a discussion about relieving John Carney of his kick-off duties to save his leg? If Mariscal has such a great leg maybe he could do that and leave in Berger as the punter. He is a proven veteran. If he is 3 or 4 yards shorter on a kick than Mariscal I\'ll still go with him if he can once again put 35+% of his punts inside the 20.

Three roster spots for kickers? Not on a 53 man roster, no way.

Isn\'t the game called FOOTBALL?

another good question
Yes the game is called football , but the reduced roster makes every spot on a team a premium. A punter and a FG Kicker is all most teams are willing to carry, if one of them can\'t handle kickoffs they will find one who can.Last year only 4 teams, the Bengals, Ravens, Raiders and Niners carried 3 kickers on there 53 man roster, two more used a extra kicker because of injuries but did\'nt carry three at once. Haslett does\'nt seem to care much about kickers, I seriously doubt you\'ll ever see more than two on one of his teams.
