Is he still injured?

saintsfan1313 07-24-2007 11:35 AM

wooohooo!! seems like this origanization is really gettin it ^%$ together....I LOVE it!!

Obviously this is great news- get the kid in camp, limit the distractions, etc

I am surprised that it maxes out at only $11.3 mill. I see him looking to renegotiate in year 4, 5 at the latest.

The up-front money always bothers me ($5.7 mill), but with the rookie cap I know there is no way around it.

Well that’s awesome news.
Things are definitely looking up.

My hats off to the management organization of the saints and to you as well MR. Benson.

As far as the injury goes, he should be ready by Friday....no link just rumor.

DeadmaN 07-24-2007 04:21 PM

I would hope he is ready to go now but if not I'll certainly keep my fingers crossed

Nice to hear they have all the players signed, but if they didn't a day or two of missed practice would not have been bad.

FatiusJeebs 07-24-2007 05:36 PM

Kudos to Loomis. That man has been amazing the last couple of years!!

Colston

Since Colston was only 3 picks away from "Mr. Irrelevant" last year, he couldn't have signed for much. Did he get a raise after last year? Is there a place to look that kind of thing up?

Ashley 07-24-2007 08:17 PM

Good news, hope he can make a difference this year for us.

I do not believe he got a new contract. However, he did receive some kind of supplemental pay. As I understand it, the NFL sets the amount based on number of snaps

It seems like that would affect the salary cap.

I don't think supplemental pay counts towards a team’s salary cap
I think it goes down on paper more like a bonus
But heck I personally don't care how they did it
I'm all for it

..::EDIT::..
But don’t quote me on that, as I have been wrong about things like that in the past

I did hear that he got some kind of performance-based pay from the NFL last year, but I don't think he should immediately be talking about getting a new contract. I'm a big believer in honoring the contract that you signed. Now if it gets to be the season before his contract runs out, and he's still performing at the kind of level he did last season yet getting paid like a 7th rounder, then yes, I think the Saints should listen. But until then, I think he needs to honor what he signed. And it's not just him (even though I doubt that Colston is even the kind of guy to pull that kind of crap), I feel the same way with every player, i.e. Will Smith.

I was just wondering. He really helped out last year and is a popular player and we're better off when all our players are happy. If Meachem comes in and is making 10 times what Marques is before catching his first pass, it could be something that would bother Marques. I'm just thinking out loud. I'm sure Saint's managment knows what it's doing.
