Punt Return Options

After Moore's showing Friday, Reggie might have to return punts this year. To me, the risk of injury there outweighs the potential.

Pierre Thomas looked good at KR and kick coverage, so he might be the answer.

I think Jason David returned some punts in camp, but he needs to concentrate on coverage.

Meachem?

Pierre Thomas is the answer to me. This kid just looks like he has talent to me.

Yea,but Reggie is to important to other parts of our game. I don't want to see him get hurt returning. Pierre Thomas is the answer. The kid has the desire to do whatever it takes to make this team. He's fast and elusive.Turn him loose.

Re: Punt Return Options

if pierre would make the team, the rb's would be....deuce,reggie,pittman, and thomas....would that leave stecker out?

Re: Punt Return Options

I look for the team to cut Stecker this year for salary reasons. Thomas is younger, cheaper and faster to keep. Plus I\in my opinion he'll be a better backup than Stecker. I lost fait in Stecker last year. He just didn't show me enough. I like this Thomas kid.

The idea behind returns are field position. If Reggie is our best option you use him. Worrying about injury on a kick return is ridiculous. Injury on special team making a tackle is something you worry about but not returning a kick. What's the difference in kick returning and running through the middle of the line?

Now that's an intelligent answer. ANYTIME you're on a football field, you can get hurt. I guess if you've never been there, you just don't know. Calling someone statement ridiculous, is just ......well ridiculous.
Well thought out.

Folks seem to forget the number of punt returns that Reggie ran backwards losing yardage last season.

It's also critical that Reggie not get overloaded with work that he's less effective in the offense.

Finally, this coaching staff hasn't giving any indication (to me at least) that their judgement isn't sound. If they believe that Moore is the answer in the return game, I'll trust it until there is a justification not to do so.

There are 2 differences. First, when running through the line you are not looking up, watching a punt with a 3 second hang time.

Second, you are not being tackled by someone who has a full head of steam because they have been sprinting for 40 yards

200 lbs hurling down the field trying to beat a block usually leads to low hits at the knees.

why not pitmen returning kicks? thet should try him.he reminds me allot of regie when he runs.

Re: Punt Return Options

I don't think reggie is a full time PR or KR. He didn't do that well when he was back there last year. Yeah...he broke the one against TB. And had a spectacular 7 yd gain against GB. But overall it wasn't his thang. Reggie likes to go for the jugular every time he touches it. Thats not always needed back there. We need somebody who is gon b-line through the opeing and gain positive yards almost everytime. Somebody willing and able to get hit hard everytime (not reggie). And who has only KR and/or PR responsibilities. If Payton wants to throw reggie back there every now and then to try and break one...fine. But lets not get him KILLED 20 times just to try and break One. And most of the time, the PR's that are ran back for touchdowns don't required the agility of a Reggie Bush...It's usually a straight line up the middle and then a dash down the sideline. I think Pittman and/or Lance would be a great fit.

But...who am I... Thats Sean's Decision.

Everyone makes valid points. But all I'm saying is how many games did the Bears win last year because of Hester returning kicks for TD's. Cards game, 2 TD's in Rams game, 1 in Vikings game plus a couple of returns over 25 yds each in Bucs OT win. Without Hester's returns last year NFC Championship game could have been in the Dome. Field position is what opens up Payton's offense.

So very true but he wasn't an important part of their offense either. Reggie is far to important to our offense to even consider him getting hurt on treturns in my opinion.

agreed
if they put Reggie in as the return guy all they are doing is putting him at risk
I mean come on this is not Madden where you have a reset button this is real life and imagine if he were to get injured…
(Oh man I don’t even want to think about that)
that would be worse then us having a less productive return guy any day of the week
put anyone but him in to do that job
