Consistently Inconsistent
Posted by Benjamin Hochman, staff writer
August 13, 2007 7:22PM JACKSON, MISS -- The Monday afternoon quarterbacks looked like targets of a Monday morning quarterback. Drew Brees and Co. were frighteningly inconsistent at the Saints afternoon practice at Millsaps College. Brees himself struggled a bit, throwing a couple into the ground. One pass to Terrence Copper down the right sideline was batted away by a diving Jason David. The receivers weren't helping. For instance, one pass hit Robert Meachem between the "1" and "7" on his jersey - and bounced to the ground, incomplete. Reggie Bush, yes Reggie Bush, dropped a perfectly thrown Brees ball, while Bush darted unfettered across the middle of the field. Coach Sean Payton had a few words for the superstar, and they probably weren't: "That Ciara video was hot." -- One guy who does seem to catch everything is Lance Moore. The receiver/return man seems to be making a name for himself this camp, and his name could come up as the team's No. 3 receiver if he keeps this up. He's a little guy at 5 feet 9, but he seems to elevate nicely and is fearless running across the field. -- Running back Deuce McAllister now has his own sandwich at McAlister's Deli. (No word if a jealous Kendrick Clancy will try to get a dish at Clancy's). "The Deuce" has grilled chicken breast, provolone, lettuce, tomato, spicy creole dressing and honey mustard on a rosemary herb ciabatta bread. -- On Monday, Payton sneaked in a haircut between practices. Mike McKenzie did not. |
Re: Consistently Inconsistent
I bet is Payton thinkin: "Man I shoulda use that first round pick differently....Lance Moore is outplaying our guarranteed $5.7 million. Maybe I should have trusted myself and got a receiver the same way I got my #1 receiver last year...Late in the draft...oh well".
Jk, I'm still rooting for Meachem. But he's getting behind the grading curve. |
Re: Consistently Inconsistent
Lance Moore is having a decent preseason and that is it. I seriously doubt he will crack the WR rotation, let alone being number 3. I also doubt that he will make the team as a special team returner. I do think another team will take notice and sign him after the preseason cuts. He does have some talent...
