A Sappy Divorce

Roger Mills, Times Staff Writer @ St. Petersburg Times today wrote article describing details of divorce filed by Jamiko Sapp yesterday from Warren Sapp citing marriage to be irretrievably broken. The Sapps were married January 29,1998 and have two children, a 5 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. On June 3, 1998 Sapp was sued for child support for a son born June 19, 1997 and in February of this year Sapp acknowledged that he is the father of a 2 year old girl by another mother.

vows......character.......leadership.......role model.......vaules......morals......commitment?

NOT HARDLY!

Let's see. Married 5 years and one month, have a 5 year old from that marriage which was conceived prior to marriage, a 2nd child born within this marriage now 2 yrs. old, a child born from another mother 6 years ago out of wedlock, and a 2 yr. old child by another mother while still in current marriage. It's not certain of how many children he may have fathered prior to these, since, or that have yet to be acknowledged. Warren may need someone to explain what it takes to be a real man in this world. Warren knows pigskin! Warren knows foreskin! Warren don't hardly know next of kin! Never heard of Trogan! Didn't go to USC. Explained...............................................................

MY AM ME!!!
HER I CAN!!!

I HOPE SHE STICKS IT IN HIS BUCCANEER!

Yea, he\'s not the most admirable off the field person. But all teams have questionable character guys, you Saint fans should be all too familiar with that catagory over the recent years.

The sad part of it all is the kids. Although they will be monetarily OK breaking up Mom & Dad is a horrible thing for the little ones. I feel for them.

Part of the problem is not the players but the media. If you\'ve been around a long time you know very well that sports stars used to be coddled by the media and personal things rarely leaked to the fan.

Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, etc, those guys were scum but the public never knew till many years after thier career. Alot of the old greats in the NFL were mean cheap shot artists racists and generally just bad men but media writers in early TV (before cable, satalite, internet) and newspaper were shunned from writing negative stories.

I\'m sure you know someone who is a racist or had a divorce or got arrested, if thier story was all over the net they would look real bad also.

I tend to just let family & personal life be seperated and watch the game as entertainment wher the players are more like pawns in a game than real people. It\'s easier to enjoy the game that way. The media like it or not are leeches after thier own glorification.

Since when does your personal life come in to play with football? As if Sapp is the first person in the world that has not be able to get along with a woman? As if he is the first person to have a child out of wed lock? This is a sorry post, I guess people will stoop to anything to stir up a controversy.....

I don\'t agree with any of the things he\'s reported to have done, but that doesn\'t make it right for someone to stand on a perch looking down at him and laughing, now does it?

I bet you love to read about him falling down a flight of stairs too?

This thread = LAME.

Hey Bucnup, Sorry I offended you. Maybe you call Warren pops for all I know. Weak thread? Your beat writer splashed big article on same subject. Did you write letter of objection to editor? Hey look, I agree that the game of football on the field and the game of life off the field should be kept separate but I didn\'t break the story. With story out in the open my comments are only to point out that the big mouth of the south has some character flaws that represent part of what\'s out of whack in society today. Leaders aren\'t born. They are made, molded through teachings of others and actions and choices made by ones self. I don\'t wish him or anyone harm (falling down stairs, ect.). Don\'t need to be on a perch to take shots at this guy. Could do it from a duck blind or so could any gutter punk at this low life.

I\'m afraid I also disagree with this post. It has no relevance here! Sapp\'s sorry personal life is of no business to us SAINTS fans. The children are the real loosers here. I guess you can\'t add that he is gay now can you? I also hope your closet is clean and tidy before you spread this type of trash. I know you didn\'t start it but you did spread it. This doesn\'t show much class either.

Anytime you put yourself in the public eye, it\'s all fair game brother. Now, if the guy had cancer or something out of his control it would be very low class to make fun of him. Sapp controlled his own destiny on this one. He made his bed and you know the rest.

Should we not talk about Kobe Bryant or Michael Pittman? Distractions are distractions and this could very well be relevant on the field. Players are human beings and these kind of things have affected players on the field many times.

I hope the mistake he made by cheating is running through his mind everytime the ball is snapped.

For you guys that say it\'s wrong to talk about it.....Your wrong.....

BC you\'ve made all good points. I still feel we as Saints fans are above this type of crap. Lets handle things with our performance and not our fingers pointing outwardly. Show some class.

Regardless you know my saying:

It\'s all good. This thread has been marked. Take my rebuttal with a grain of salt when it happens back on your guys....

Something personal, brought to the light. Because it\'s coming. It happens to all teams, some sooner than others.

Buc,

I get no pleasure out of anyone\'s personal misery but I\'ll take any advantage I can get on the field. If this affects Sapps play on the field-Grrrrrreat for us. He has no one to blame but himself.

Voice of Reason--When did you let that get in your way of trying to make a point?

My response to this thread has nothing to do with being a voice of reason or even trying to be. It\'s just what is right. This thread, although news, has absolutely NOTHING to do with football which, correct me if I am wrong, is why we are all tuned into this site. I am a DIE HARD SAINTS FAN 100% all of the time through thick and thin for over 25 years and that will NEVER change. What does bother me is low class or no class actions by some of our fans. This isn\'t needed nor does it help anything. Will this effect Sapps performance on the field? I think not. Why? Because this didn\'t just come about now. He has been doing this type of thing for years. He isn\'t effected by his conscience. So this will NOT help our beloved Saints team. It only speaks volumes about Saints Fans! Show some class.
We too have had our share of personal distractions...remember why Roaf was let go? Remember the \"rumors\" of the Willie Roaf or Joe Horn baby thing??? That too was totally unnecessary. It\'s not about being a voice of reason it\'s about class. If you can go ahead and throw the first and all of the stones. If you are qualified to do I tip my hat to you.

coastalkid,

The one I see thowing the most stones is you, by calling people low class. Exactly who are you calling low class?

Your opinions are just that, opinions. Truth is you don\'t know how this will affect Sapp on the field. Personal problems are a part of life and they are not off limit. You can talk about a man\'s problems off the field and not be low class. You have your right to feel however you want but don\'t push them on me.........

BC, First of all I apologize if you took my \"no Class\" comments personally. I was NOT calling you low class. I do believe this type of thread does not have much merit in this forum (my opinion). I\'m not throwing any stones. I\'m not perfect myself therefor would not throw any. I will no longer comment on this thread.

You owe me no apology. Your stance is admirable. I just wasn\'t sure who you were talking about when you said \"some of our low class posters.\" The only thing that is relevant about Sapp\'s infidelity was if it was going to affect his play on the field , which is entirely possible, considering this has brought a many a man down.

To question a mans character, because he made a mistake, is not right. In my opinion.

BucNup and coastalkid have stoned me with the \"Lame Thread, Sorry Post, Low Class, Relevance to football, No Class\" attacks on MY character and judgement to \"spread this trash that is not considered news\". Thanks for the half hearted pro bono defense BillyC but I\'ll be OK. I\'ll dust myself off here and clear it up for them.

NEWS
Facts of my original post to this thread was found when viewing \"The Official Tampa Bay Buccaneers Bulletin Board by way of NFL.Com\". Starter member \"Buc-ger\", veteran of 967 posts, began thread about Sapp divorce, which at the time had over 1100 views and 40 reply posts. The St. Petersburg Times wrote in depth article on subject and ABC aired the info as well. Like it or not, agree with it or not, once media outlets run a story on something it is deemed to be NEWS. It\'s not like I went down to the local Florida courthouse and unearthed some PRIVATE document.

CONTEXT OF POST/REVELANCE TO FOOTBALL/LEADERSHIP
It is the actions of the subject, not me, that show low class and no class. Not for having children out of wedlock or for making a single mistake, but for repeatedly doing so without regard to all parties affected by the actions of an incorrigible person. Certainly the children of these circumstances suffer the most regardless of monetary compensation. The MESSAGE was that this man has character flaws that have now been exposed to his teammates that they may not have previously known about and some of them may now find his leadership qualities to be questionable. Afterall, if you lie to, cheat on, desert, letdown, all of the people you are supposed to LOVE and who love you, why would others follow the voice of this type LEADER?

If you don\'t think character has anything to do with the game of football you probably never played the game at any level. It is a team sport in which a few members of the team by way of example on AND off the field are looked up to by their teammates as LEADERS. Character becomes increasingly more important for players on the professional level. Players entering the nfl draft out of college each year, as well as in free agency, are examined in every allowable way, rated and graded by talent and past acheivements, and JUDGED BY THEIR CHARACTER. Many individuals are penalized each year sometimes millions of dollars not for what they can or can\'t do on the field, but because of past actions off the field, and because of what is perceived to be character issues, real or not. Mr. Sapp himself was originally drafted lower than what his on the field talent suggested. Understandably so!
