Somebody Please Explain This To Me
 
This was a problem for me all year last year, and now on our first possession we're doing it again. If we have the best blocking Fullback in the league, THEN WHY DO WE GO INTO A SINGLE-BACK SET EVERYTIME WE GET INTO THE REDZONE?!?! It drives me crazy. It's the main reason we can't score once we're in the redzone. And then we finally put Karney in, block him to the outside and run it up the middle? I just don't understand. Anyone else?

..it's called preseason, and evaluating plays as well as players alike...

I'm not able to see the game, but I have been following along on nfl.com. It said Eric Johnson was injured after his last catch. Is it a serious injury? Does anyone know?

it concerns me that the Offense can move the ball so well down the field and then get to the redzone and cant do anything. This is definately an issue payton needs to address. We should be up 21-0 instead on 6-0

I think Payton is trying out some things in the RZ right now - why else would he call an inside running play 4 times in a row @ 1st & goal? If this was reg season, there would have been some play-action somewhere in there. I think he wanted to test / challenge his O-line surge (and it wasn't pretty).

Payton already knows we can pound the ball with Karney and Deuce. What does doing that in preseason accomplish? He needs to diversify the playbook where we are efficient in other personnel formations in short field situations. The team needs to be effective running multiple play calls from formations where it is not obvious what we do. That's what he's using preseason to accomplish.

agreed... just look how beautiful that pa pass to patten was... i think drew and sp know that they can score at will with plays like that one or lining deuce up behind karney... payton was just sizing up the o-line down in the redzone early in the game, and obviously they need a little work. No need to worry!!!!

I assume they will do it more during the regular season.
