Running Game

I really thought we could run on the Colts. But, I guess I was wrong. I see why the Saints were not in the Superbowl and the Colts were. It's still a long season, but we flunked the first test.

Here here... we've still got some lessons to learn.

They better learn quick. They are not even going to make the playoffs at this rate. Man, I expected a lot better than this!

Most of the Saints nation did. The Saints' offense still needs to learn how to change a defenses strategy. Tonight it should have been load up and run the ball until play action becomes effective.

Re: Running Game

I think that we just faced a more prepared team than us. The reallity of this team, is that they seem to get ahead of themselves, and forget the fundamentals. Mental mistakes can cost you everything, and that's all I seen in the second half of this game. And I hate to say this, but we really missed a WR like Joe Horn tonite. Henderson is no Horn.

Not using Duece more, in the first half, was just ludicrous. He was getting yards, and just like against the Bears, we abandoned the idea early. When Duece gets 100 on the ground, 9 times out of 10, we win the game. They looked positively dreadful all the way around. Brees looked terrible. I really don't know of a positive to speak of.

Ya think? Geez these were all no brainers going into the game but people wanted to live in a fantasy land. Colts always start strong. Our offense wasn't in sync.

Brees did look terrible tonight. I think it had more to do with the situation around him, and not necessarily him. A guy like Horn was missed in a bad way. Like I stated in another post, I think there is a good possibility that Henderson will be back on the bench, maybe Patten taking over. The run blocking was a nightmare. I thought Deuce and Reggie ran with a lot of heart tonight, but there was simply too many missed blocks for them to get going.

Henderson is a valued asset going downfield, but he's not a true #2 (I know you LSU fans don't want to hear that). Patten looked like a younger, healthier Joe Horn in the Chiefs game, and he had a couple bright spots tonight. I see him pushing Henderson to the #3. I just don't know what happened to Patten in the last few minutes -- he didn't seem to try to get that ball that hit his hand (did he misstep or get tripped) and it looked like he or Brees blew the pattern on the interception run back for a TD.

Henderson looked very sloppy from what I could see. I, for one, miss Joe. Hopefully dev took notes on what Marvin and Reggie Wayne did, because that was a clinic.

We built up some credibility from last season and we go get mauled on national TV. We made Indy's defense, who lost many key players, look like Baltimore out there. Deuce and Bush should have ran all over these guys.

One step forward... two steps back.

Oh well... next week it is.
