Dolphins claimed DE Rob Ninkovich off waivers from the Saints.
New Orleans may have made a mistake here thinking it was possible to get him through waivers. Ninkovich will likely play linebacker in Miami's 3-4.

Saints signed DE Renaldo Wynn to a one-year contract.
Wynn replaces Rob Ninkovich as New Orleans' third end. While he is not a dangerous threat as a pass rusher, Wynn adds versatility and experience behind starters Will Smith and Charles Grant. After Thursday night's affair, the Saints can use as much help on their defense as they can muster.

Ok I am starting to worry we are playing to many games with the waiver wire. Wynn is a serviceable vet. The glory of last years draft and the FO is starting to dim. We maybe getting to cute for our own good. Now if the Fred Thomas rumor pans out I will really begin to have a doubts. We should have rethought the final 53.

I agree we need to stabilize

Is Wynn better than Nico? neither seems to be a great option. Wouldn't Cooper be considered the number 3 anyway?

Couldn't we have drafted an DE or a CB with the wasted #4 pick instead?

I really HATE the fact that we got rid of Ninkovich. We could have used him at linebacker at least, because he IS a very good player.

But I guess I need to quit fuming over the loss and just accept that it has happened. HATE IT, our defense needs guys like that!

Can you discuss the roster move you made yesterday?

“Yesterday on gameday we waived Rob Ninkovich and brought Tyler Palko up to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, dressing him for the game. At that time, there were a couple of thoughts behind it. It allowed us to have a third quarterback, but if that was just the case, I would have done that at the onset. There’s more to it and it affects our roster in the days to come. The next time we’re with each other, you might have a better idea of the direction we’re headed. We made the change with him (Ninkovich) being waived yesterday and Palko going to the 53-man roster.”

I wish we had kept Ninkovich but thats the way the coach decided so hopefully he knows best.

The New Orleans Saints have signed defensive lineman Renaldo Wynn, a veteran of 10 NFL seasons.

Wynn, a 1997 first round draft choice of the Jacksonville Jaguars, played the past five seasons (2002-2006) with the Washington Redskins after playing his first five seasons (1997-2001) with the Jaguars. He was released by the Redskins on September 1 and instantly became a free agent due to fact he had accrued enough service time in the NFL and thus was not subject to having to go through the waiver process, meaning he was free to sign with the team of his choice.

Wynn, a 6-3, 296-pounder out of Notre Dame, has played in 152 career games, and has started 127 of the contests. He has accumulated 484 career tackles, 21.5 sacks for -140 yards, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and three passes defensed. He has also started all four postseason games that he has played in, registering 10 tackles and one fumble recovery.

The native of Chicago has played virtually every position along the defensive line during his career and provides the Saints with quality depth and experience as a back-up to both Charles Grant on the left side of the line and to Will Smith on the right side. He also has the requisite size to be able to move to an interior line position, this giving the team roster versatility on game days.

Wynn has also has been a strong proponent of charitable endeavors throughout his career, creating a organization called “Wynn’s Family of Faith Foundation.” In 2005 and 2006 Wynn hosted shopping sprees for Washington, D.C, based families that were in need of assistance during the holidays. In addition, he organized the first-ever “Renaldo Wynn Car Summer Fest” which featured his, as well as other teammates’ vehicles in an exposition to raise money for his foundation.

In other news, the Saints waived rookie QB Tyler Palko from the 53-man roster and released DE Willie Evans from the practice squad.

Wynn is a proven vet. The Saints are trying to win now. The front office wasn't lucky or good in their offseason moves for the defense and now they're scrambling a bit.
