What's Up With Drew Brees
QB 9 Brees, Drew TDS 1 INT 7 YDS 677 RTG 57.1
I'm trying my hardest to figure out how in the hell an ALL-PRO, PRO BOWL, 2nd in MVP voting Quarterback could look so bad in a span of one year? You can talk about the blocking, which has been horrible, dropped balls by the receivers, there's been a few, you can even point to missed assignments, wrong routes being ran, or aliens from outer space. But it won't explain the happy feet Drew has developed lately, even when he has time his throws seem to get away from him, thank GOD Colston stands 6 feet 4 inches or Brees would've had a couple of more picks monday night. Brees's mechanics seem to be a lil off, even his throwing motion doesn't look as fluid as in the past, at times Drew looks like a rookie in the pocket. I'm just trying to understand how a veteran pro bowl QB can throw 1 td seven, SEVEN int's in three games, man at this point he is worst than ole Sexy Rexy. I'm hoping and praying that he can fix whatever it is affecting him over the the bye week, because we hitched the entire franchise to Drew, without him there is no future, so if your reading this Drew, let's get it together, it's not too late, but it's getting close, we need you desperately, so man up and get back that swagger from last year starting with a victory against Caorlina in week 5. |

I noticed Monday night the same thing happened to Brooks you look around and look out the corner of your eye while trying to look for a WR. ITS THE LINE MAN! |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
I have to agree with you guys. If your line doesn't block you butts in trouble. Brees hasn't been all world, but I place much of the blame on the offensive line. From what i've seen of them, they are terrible. Worse than that if possible. Defensive line isn't any better. I think our whole defense is weak at best. None of them are playing up to their potential.

Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
I just don't understand what happened between last year and this year. You don't get luckyand win 10 games. At least on the offensive side of the ball the line played much better last year. Maybe it is the fact of all the hype during the last few months. Maybe they started to believe all the write-ups. I still believe that these guys can play, but they sure need to get off their collective butts and play. These guys have been tossed around like rag dolls this year. Poor old Drew is starting to remind me of Archie. The thing is, you can't point the finger at any one lineman. They're all guilty of playing like crap. I'm for putting in some or all of the replacement players. At least someone who wants to earn a job. Looks to me like the starters believe to much in how good they are. It's almost to late, but they need to learn, they're not as great as they think they are. If they keep playing at this rate, Deuce won't be the only injury this year. We might not have a running back to finish the year with.

Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
It is him and the rest of the team playing bad, but the same was true for Aaron and the team at that time also.
|
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
No O-line. However, even when he does have time to throw he's been throwing junk balls.
Drew threw a ball way too high for Deuce and now Deuce is out for the year. I love Drew. I hope that this team gets better before the Panthers. If not, I may have to sell my ticket for the Seattle/Saints game. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Listened to Drew on Bobby Hebert's show last night and it sounds to me like Drew is just as befuddled as all of us. His stats so far this year show him in a different light. The later interceptions are coming bc the Saints are trying to get back IN a game. Drew is forced to try and squeeze a pass in to make a big play and well, when you have defenders just sitting back and waiting for the pass.... it gets tipped and or intercepted.
|
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Lance Moore has actually been a bright spot on the team. David Patten has also looked good when Drew is actually able to complete a pass. Devery is the only one that looks horrible out there.
The line... that's the problem. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
The reason that Brees has looked bad is the same reason the running game can not move the ball - the O-Line can not block. If you look at most of Brees errant passes, you'll see that they were either tipped by a D-Lineman or Brees was hit. It is also the same reason that the team has lost the big-play threat. The O-Line can not hold off our opponents long enough for the receivers to get down field. If the team can fix the problems with the O-Line, then the team will become a contender again.

Unless the O-line can step up his protection Brees will have a tough time making it work.

Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
This is going to seem rather silly to some of you posters. But, I really believe that the season will be saved if they dig up those trophys and awards from last year and bury something from the year before. I think they buried our new team when we should have buried our old one. Sean Payton is in my opinion an excellent head coach, but I think right now he is outcoaching himself. He is trying to be to sly and he hasn't shown a pattern of any sort for a defense to be expecting. He is so busy try to throw a curve that he is forgeting about the heavy heater that got him to the little dance last season. We were supposed to be running at them hard, hitting that tight end we acquired and then busting them open with Colston and Henderson. What's happening? And now Duece. Oh yeah the defense. Lord help me please. Can Marvin Mitchell play any ball. He's on the practice team. Ring him up. Give him a cap. Let's see if he can make a play. Hell, that's better than play action on fourth and a half.
As far as the line goes. I can't understand how or why they would be this bad after being I thought very good. I would expect them to get stronger as a unit in their second campaign. It is unbelievable. It is unatural, therefore supernatural...i.e. VooDoo. And I ain't talking arena football. It is the casket full of awards, trophys, and a mock championship banner buried on Airline Hwy. They buried our championship spirit, mojo, swagger or whatever you want to call it. That's my opinion. And that and $1.25 will get ya to Canal on the Claibourne. |

Peter King interviewed coach Payton and said that we will probably see a different o-line against the Panthers after the bye week. Bring on Alleman, Bushrod, and Streif. I'm eager to see some protection for Brees. When he's protected he's a great quarterback. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
SaintsRule has a good memory - does anyone else? Where was all of the sympathy and support when Brooks was getting his head taken off. Brooks was at the top of his game until we opened up his blind side by letting Willie Roaf get away - straight down hill from there. Now Brees has ants in his pants and can't plant his feet. Average QB's would shine given time to throw coupled with a 4.7 yard per carry running game. No time and no running game, even homie Peyton would get his a$$ handed to him in our current scenerio.

OH YES. I have been pointing out the problem has been our O Line for years and all anyone wanted to put the blame on was Brooks. Now Brees looks the same way. Until we fix the line even Manning would look the same way if we had him behind them. Hell even Grossman got into a SB. Its not the freakin QB's its the protection. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Is the O Line guilty? Hell yes, of course it is. But does anybody -really- believe Aaron Fumblitis Brooks could lead a team to a Superbowl? C'mon.
If Aaron Brooks had any value whatsoever - he'd have a job in the NFL. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Getting blind side stripped by 300 pounders is really not the QB's fault. It's hard to hang on to the ball even when you see those guys coming. Trying to force the ball into tight coverage just to get rid of it is on the QB. Low throws, high throws, weak throws to the sidelines are also on the QB. Brees needs time, throwing lanes, and receivers that will hang on to the ball. Receivers need time to get separation and CATCHABLE passes, hopefully in stride, that will allow them to add some after catch yards. It will only happen when the line gives them 4-6 seconds to get it done. Much tougher to do w/o a running game.

Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Throw him under a bus right now. Dude Brees has 1 TD and 7 INT. Forget about the lack of help on the o-line, dude has freaking Richard Todd and Heath Shuler type of numbers right now. Hold the QB responsible and hopefully he can turn it around. I know he has had poor blocking, but at times when he has had time to throw the passes, he is still very inaccurate. This season has a 2-14 joke written all over it. At least once the Saints go 1-9 the Tyler Palko experiment will come into play. Nothing like another false sense of hope...

Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
First off I will bring the shovel and a night light to dig up the awards if it help. Second Drew is no AB. Thank God. AB had a lot of problems here. Not only with his team on the field but off as well. The dude was on the outside looking in. Eupho is right. When haz took over the Saints he got a great OL. It took him less than 3 years to gut it. So AB is not to blame. Well not for all of it. I never thought he recovered from that shoulder injury.
As for Drew, he is hearing foot steps. They are real and not ghosts. Th OL can not handle a bull rush. I too have been saying it for years. Teams stack the box, stunt and blitz to their hearts desire. They know they can score on us so they got nothing to lose. Bush is running free out there. He is not getting the attention he did last year. Why because the defense knows it can out man our OL. Simple. Watch the LB and you can see it. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
EXACTYLY... The way to beat the Saints is out. You score a few times and take the Saints out of any run game and force them to pass... then you put pressure on the LINE and they fold.

Here is more proof... go and actually watch the games and cound how man seconds Brees has before he has to step up or make a move. He doesn't have much time to even set his feet before he has to worry about running or dodging someone. Buy him sometime and he'll come around and WR will get open. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
I knew the O Line was in trouble before the season started. Why? Because I heard an announcer going on about what a great O Line New Orleans has.
I knew it was over as soon as I heard that. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
There is something wrong with Brees and we all know it. When he attempts a downfield pass (more than 15 yards) they look very very weak. One of the longer passes he completed (against the Titans) was a lame duck and he's glad it wasn't intercepted. I don't care what you guys say about the blocking there is something wrong with him. He doesn't look like the leader of last year.

Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Until our O-line get's it together Brees will remain shook!!!

Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Drew's completion % for last year 64.3 that is pretty good and he led the league completing 50% for passes of 20+ yards.
Drew's completion % for this year 63.8. Son of a b*tch can we trade him? The boy has lost his touch he hears footsteps in the huddle does he need glasses did the laser surgery on his eyes miss. Wait I just looked up some stats his #2 wr has been thrown to 11 times and has caught 4 of them. So he completes 65% of his passes to everyone except his #2 wr. |
Re: What's Up With Drew Brees
Did anyone else notice that the only time Brees made meaningful, good throws was when the play was a designed bootleg to get out of the pocket. He'd then plant his feet and throw it downfield to a Colston or Henderson.
I don't understand for the life of me why they didn't run more of those - because they were the only pass plays that worked. And they kept the pressure off of Brees. WAKE UP coaches. |
