Irony Could Be Running the Ball in New Orleans Soon
Posted Sep 28th 2007
by Tom Mantzouranis Deuce McAllister had surgery to repair his torn ACL today, and by all reports it went well (God James Andrews performed the operation). So, though it doesn't feel right to use the word "replace" in this instance, since nobody could replace Deuce, I guess it's time to start thinking about how exactly the Saints plan on running the ball this year. Especially since they haven't been running well as is. For better or worse, Reggie Bush is going to take over the majority of the carries. Aaron Stecker will get an increased role, as will Pierre Thomas (who I believe will eventually usurp Stecker's role and vulture some carries from Bush). Some feel the team should go with a veteran -- Domanick Williams and Corey Dillon are still waiting to receive a phone call. But, for humor's sake, perhaps they should go looking for their new back in bridal shops and drum circles all across the land? Yes, Ricky Williams is out there, looking for a way to get back into the league. If you remember before the comeback/don't-call-it-a-comeback drama and the millions of overdone weed jokes, Williams was a Saint. It was McAllister who made him expendable. And if there's anything that would make this season more head-scratching than the putrid start, it would be a trade for the player they traded after trading their entire draft for him. And it could happen -- there's only a handful of Saints that remain from the Williams days, with an entirely different front office and coaching staff, so the bad blood wouldn't quite be there. Not that I'm saying this will, or should, happen -- I'd pull my hair out. Luckily, I think the Saints will divide all of McAllister's carries in-house. But it is a funny -- if not frightening -- possibility to consider, and stranger things have happened. FanHouse - AOL Sports Blog |

What would it hurt? Sean would not do it. Dillion would be his first choice.

Re: Irony Could Be Running the Ball in New Orleans Soon
if miami releases him and we give up no draft picks then why not

Uhm let me see if I can expain this to you. I personally don't have a problem with pot but its a substance not allowed in the NFL. So he plays a game and the following week gets popped and then he'll be suspened for ??? Why even bother. We didn't go after Tank whom we badly needed.

if they consider this then they might as well consider bring back Brooks
We have the guys and the talent in house to do this job, why look out side if they are to add anything to this team they should be looking at the following and in this order of importance... "O" linemen MLB CB |

Other questions to concern ourselves with is: "IS HE IN SHAPE", "IS HE READY TO GO", "IS HE MENTALLY PREPARED" or will he take off to some remote island in the middle of no wheres and get high singing "CAUSE I GOT HIGH, CAUSE I GOT HIGH, CAUSE I GOT HIGH". I was gonna pay my child support but then I got high. I was going to play of the Saints again then I saw they no blockers for me so I got high. |

We've got what we need in the back field (for the moment). I think Reggie can do the job of carrying the lion's share of the load. Turning the corner is out - too tough at this level. Dive him out of the "I", off guard/off tackle, lead by Karney. If he can break through into the secondary 2-3 times he will get good numbers and force some changes on defense that would let Drew Brees relax a little. Stecker and Thomas aren't slouches either. If we get a good push up front, we will begin to see a change in our success. Until now, they haven't shown the ability to push anything. In my mind, that means that they are due.

Rickey's out of the question. It's not even worth discussing. He washed up. Just let it go.
I agree that the Deuce thing may be a blessing in disguise, but not because Reggie will be running the ball a lot more. I predict that the Saints are about to start passing 40-50 times a game. The offense will be similar to the Eagles or even the Martz-era Rams. If Payton can use Reggie like Westbrook or Faulk, then that's fine with me. |
