Worst Coaching

This is the worst coaching I have seen on any NFL team this year. The play calling is predictable. The decisions are mind-boggling. The players' focus is non-existent. There is no accountability for bad play, and he makes players who are the victims of bad calls sit it out on the sidelines.

Despite his good fortune last year, I would fire Sean Payton if this does not get better immediately

Re: Worst Coaching

Sean Payton is part of the problem, no doubt. Firing him though wouldn't solve our problems. This team does not have one good thing going for them. You can talk about character all you want, but what good does it do when those guys can't play at this level? Payton can't control the dropped passes, inability to tackle, missed field goals, etc.

Sean Payton is the ROOT of all the problems you talked about. Coaching is about getting your players ready for game day, as much as it is about calling plays at game time. Our team is sloppy, heartless, full of excuses and refusal to admit that they are playing terrible.

Every week we hear the same tired crap, all about how "we're better than we've played'. Enough with the excuses. You're only "better" if you prove it on the field. If you can't, you're not "better" you're just full of crap.

Re: Worst Coaching

I've had too much beer, and I was really counting on the Saints to play football today (I turn 40 today). Instead, I have the start of a headache and am heartsick about this terrible football I watch every week. Hell, I look back on the bye and call it a blessing because I don't have to be depressed all week.

I've been watching this team for a long time now and there've been far more bad years that good ones. On days like today, I ask myself why the hell I do it. I love my Saints and I love football, but I'm certain that when they play like this they're not helping my health any.

Apologies to all who may be offended by my passion for this team. I want them to win so badly, and I want desperately to someday be able to say that my team is a championship team. Feels like I've been waiting forever.

Re: Worst Coaching

Where was all this talk last year? You guys really think it's all the coach's fault? Or even all the players fault? Believe me, with all the problems this team has there's enough fault to go around. You can't blame any one thing, player or coach for this team. Face it they're just not a very good team. They seem to have no sense of direction. I too would like to see them stand up and take the credit for being such a bad team. Face themselves. Look at themselves in the mirror, I promise, if they honestly look, even they won't like what they see. They don't need to worry about what we as fans think. They need to worry about what they really are. A very bad football team.

I have been a Saints fans since the day they were announced. I will die a Saints fan. After last year I actually thought I might live to see the Saaints in a Super Bowl, after this year, the way it's going, I never will.

No one is offended by your words, I'm more offended by their play. Anyone who's been with this team for any amount of time knows this feeling all to well.

Re: Worst Coaching

Sean seems to be too smart for his own good. Too much finesse . It looks like they had some success moving the ball, but came away with nothing sometimes. After the bye week, this team should have been ready - at least know where you are supposed to be on the field. I caught the last of the 3rd and the 4th quarter. Blocked FG, dropped pass for an INT, no pass rush on Carr on a 3rd and 10. McKenzie's pick late in the game turns into nothing. I wish I was in the locker room right now. NO I DON'T.

Why, Yes, it is his fault. The head coach is supposed to be responsible for having the team ready to play.

Re: Worst Coaching

Agreed.

Payton's impatience and immaturity is really showing itself. He has show that he knows how to put his team into bad positions. When a toddler knows that he's going to call dump-offs to RBs, yeah - it's bad. That will drag you from 1st down to 4th VERY quickly and predictably.

I have to tip my hat to the defense today. Simmons and KK have shown that they can play. Now remove Simoneau when Fujita returns and we'll have something.

Brees, Reggie, and the entire offense has been extremely disappointing. Extremely. Payton is not giving them a CHANCE to get into rhythm, because his playcalling is so bad and erratic. Disappointing.

But hey, at least we're undefeated, a perfect 0-4. We'll jealously guard the cellar! Although I have to admit, I've got my eye on the Dolphins, they're giving us a run for our money at 0-5.

Frenzy get to the point . . . don't beat around the bush (no pun intended)! I'm with you on Payton.

Re: Worst Coaching

I agree that the play calling is pathetic at best. Besides the offensive play calling, what was up with the defensive calls late in the game? Why did they not go after David Carr? Did they forget how to call a blitz on occasion? Well, one thing in Payton's defense, if folks would just execute, then the play calling would have not been an issue. Too many drops, and Brees is very inaccurate right now, as he has been all season.

WillMacKenzie - You bring up a great point about Payton being impatient. I know a few hardcore Cowboys fans and they all stated that Payton had this same type of issue when he was calling the plays in Dallas.

And don't forget the 54 yard field attempt with an injured kicker. If we punted and pinned them inside the 10, we probably win. Or how about run it on 3rd down to make it 4th and short, then go for it? At least that would have killed a little more clock and maybe we go into overtime.

Re: Worst Coaching

First of all this is a problem that existed years ago and I have said it before Reggie was a quick fix and nothing more. When the smoke clears we have addressed and fixed nothing in years. We still have a week o line and d line. Games are won in the trences and we are horrible in there.

I don't care who is in the back field or who is coaching... you build damn football team with OLINE and DLINE dominance and you win games. You'll be in a lot of close games and win a few of them.

Re: Worst Coaching

One week it's a corner, the next the lines, the next the coach, and then what? the cheerleaders? While everyone makes a good point, the thing that really killed us today was the penalties or mental errors if you will. Dropped passes, Freddy back to his old ways, etc. I know Payton shouldn't have kicked that field goal, but we had our opportunities early and the penalties killed many drives and scores. Really, there is nothing good to say about anyone. It seems all they have to play for is pride, which I am not sure if any of these guys have any. I say put in the young guys and see what they got (except Palko). We have nothing to lose.

Re: Worst Coaching

Honestly.....I thought Payton did better today. The one call, however, that I could not understand or believe was asking for Mare to kick a 50+ yarder. We should have punted it into the corner. Carolina would have never made to the other side with less than two minutes to go.

Re: Worst Coaching

Sean is doing bad coaching. He wore Reggie out by letting him run 30 times. He should have mixed it up some. Mare sucks why did we get rid of Carney again. He is coaching style this year is too predictable. Again Mare sucks. Hell LSU could whoop our a** with their eyes closed while playing jump rope at the same time.

Re: Worst Coaching

Well I think its unfair to second guess a coach... but I do see where we can attack him for putting a product on the field like this and drafting Reggie Bush.

I also have a lot of passion for the Saints being I've been a LongTimeFan, it kills me to say anything negative about them but right now I have to say that I'm very disappointed in Sean Payton, his playing today has to be the worst of the year for him..
Brees had plenty of time today on a few plays and didn't do anything with it, he looked horrible..
No matter how they play down the stretch I'll continue to watch them every Sunday...
