Is it true?!?!?

I was just browsing the SR.com boards when I saw someone post that the Saints are bringing Vanderjagt and a few others for a workout? Can anyone confirm? They said its not posted anywhere but someone saw it on the news. I'm not local so I trust you guys for the info.

Yes it is true, saw it on the local news... This is the second time we bring him in for a workout so I defiantly think we will sign him..

I hope so! Can't confirm, but I hope someone is in camp kicking field goals - and making them. Mare makes you learn how to be grateful for 3's. Cowgirls are still undefeated because of a few good 3's.

Well said.

lol and this is the position that needs to be replaced above all else

is this head coach for real?????
or is he smoking crack or maybe he is high on meth

I'm not real sure but I think this team can use linemen long before a kicker

What a joke now I think I’m starting to see where the problem with this team is

Re: Is it true?!?!?

let me rephrase that

I meant to say this head coach and GM

Best Foot Forward

Embattled Saints kicker Olindo Mare on Monday accepted responsibility for two missed field goals Sunday that might have been the difference between victory and defeat.
But with immediate uncertainty regarding Mare's groin injury and his erratic play, the Saints will audition at least three more kickers today. League sources indicated Mike Vanderjagt, the most accurate kicker in National Football League history and someone whom the Saints worked out in March, is among those scheduled to work, as is former Dallas and Tampa Bay kicker Martin Gramatica. The agent for former Saints kicker Billy Cundiff confirmed Cundiff's scheduled workout.
Saints Coach Sean Payton said the team plans to work out a group of players today, some for practice squad help. He would not specify which positions.

Re: Is it true?!?!?

well if they look at several positions then I will retract that statement
but if all we are looking at is a kicker then we have bigger problems
I will admit he missed the kicks but I did see the panthers getting some good penetration at the line during the kicks and that concerns me more then the missed kicks

Vanderjagt and Grammatica? Good times. I thinking 12-4.

Re: Is it true?!?!?

Hopefully they're looking at linebacker too. I was a Mare backer but alas....I was wrong. We need someone who we can count on. With the problems this offense is having scoring touchdowns we need a kicker we can count on. I'm all for looking for line help, but geez we spent at least 2 draft picks this year on offensive linemen. Maybe they aren't working out but if you want guaranteed success on the offensive line you'd better be looking at trades, not draft picks. Draft picks are to iffy. same goes for the defensive line. I agree we need help on both but I think (IMHO) it's where you look for that help.

Re: Is it true?!?!?

The biggest problem with this crappy start is that we're right back to square one. Who wants to come play in New Orleans now? I think the iron was at it's hottest this past offseason and we struck on KK, Simmons, Mare, Clancy and David when AT, Dre Bly, Samuel, Briggs and some other impact defensive players were out there. Hell, even Moss was on the "clearance rack". Maybe those guys weren't all feasible - especially the frachise tag-ees - but I would have liked to see the FO at least bring them in for a meeting.

Well you aren't going to find any top O line men or Defensive players that aren't playing right now... this time of season. As for as Kickers go aside from being a head case he's still pretty damn good, worth giving a look see.

Re: Is it true?!?!?

I heard that there are over twenty player's on Saints drive auditioning for the Saints, I don't know for what positions, but from the way they have been playing, you can bet there's a few WRs, RBs, LBs, Linemen O and D, we all ready know there's a bunch of kickers. At lest he's trying to fix his mistakes instead of pretending they don't exist.

You are not going to find any offensive linemen worth signing at this point in the season.

Re: Is it true?!?!?

ok good point
I didn't think about that before I made that post
so I recant that statement
but I just for the life of me
can't understand why last season our O line may not have been the best around
but it was still solid

but this season I just want to cry when I watch them play

I feel like the guy that put the girl way high up on that pedestal…

Only to watch her fall flat on her face because I didn't take the time to sure up the legs

I truly want to see the team play better than this

Personally I don’t care if the rest of the season is a bust I just want to see my team play as a team

I think we caught teams off guard with some of the plays and speed we had. I also think that our O line totally over-achieved last year. We haven't done much to better the O-line in years and I mean drafting the top O-line players. We just pick them as an after thought and other peoples scrap via FA.
It was just a matter of time until they came back to earth. In fact if you go back and look at games we lost last year we were blown out or lost by teams that had good/great lines. 10-6 is good but isn't great??? I don't think so. 2 games and we were going to be at .500 ball.
The problem has existed for years now and it wasn't so obvious that it was a weakness last year but it was. People tend to just point the finger at the key guys instead of watching the game and evaluating all the players performance.

Do me a favor during the next Saints game keep your eye on Jeff Faine, see when he HITS a defender or just stands in the way, or when he just moves out of the way from someone hitting him, or how about when he is watching the game instead of going to lay a hit on someone.

Re: Is it true?!?!?

If you ask me what's wrong with our offense, I think it's pretty simple. The problem as I see it is timing. It's just plain off. It's off for the line, Drew, Reggie the receivers, everyone. The timing is just not there. Routes are wrong, Reggie hits the hole to fast and Drew throws the ball in front of or behind the receivers. When your timings off it messes up every thing. How do you fix it? Practice, practice, practice.

As I said in another thread, you don't go from the number 1 offense in the league to close to the bottom (with the same players) without an elemental problem. As i see it, it's timing. Just my opinion.

For the record: 7 of the last 15 first and second round picks were on the offensive and defensive lines. Granted, only three were o-line (Brown, Stinch and Bently) and of the four D-linemen (SMith, Grant, Sullivan and Howard) two were arguably busts. So there's an issue with spotting talent. But drafting 3 WR in the first two rounds and having only one still on the team still who is heading to the bench is Detroit-like.

Did anyone notice how much better our D was with Simmons and KK involved?

I kinda did notice. I wish KK would have finished that hit he put on Colbert (i think?) early in the game. He jarred the ball away but you could tell he let up.

Re: Is it true?!?!?

I noticed Harper alot up at the LB positions...was it Harper?? I want to see some replays, but it looked like we didn't have as many linebackers as we did safeties roaming around. Indeed if Simoneau was out, that could be one of the reasons for the improvement.
