Re: Bench Thomas
Deuce ,there's a lot of truth to what you're saying. As far as David is concerned, he's just been terrible. I'd just rather see Usama in there if we're going to continue to lose. Give the kid some experience. As I said, I like Freddie, I just think he might have lost a little to much. You're also right about if they give him some help out there he might be ok.

Re: Bench Thomas
... I was going to reply the same thing, I want to see Usama.
Not that Usama has done anything special, but you never know how a young player would react to being handed the start. Sure it can go bad, but compared to David, how bad can it go? |
Re: Bench Thomas
I would like to see Usama. But I don't really want to see him replace Fred. To be honest with you, I want to see Mike benched. Yes, yes, yes... I know he had an INT. Sure, FINALLY. I watch him more than any other defensive player, and HE gets burnt. He just can't keep up with good WR's. If Mckienze is so good why wasn't he covering Steve Smith, or even T.O. last year??????? Who covered these guys....Fred Thomas. Fred covers the other teams #1 WR (period).
I just wonder, really, who needs to be benched. IMHO, it aint Fred Thomas. |

==== Thomas does not cover the #1 WR, he covers whoever comes to his side of the field. Which of course they will try to put the number 1 over there because Fred Thomas is horrible. Freaking horrible. If David can unlearn the cover 2 he will be far better than Fred Thomas, Thomas is small and has gotten slow. David is taller and faster, I still would rather see Usama, b/c David is not good, but Thomas is HORRIBLE. Holding Steve Smith Down? Um, NO, no one does that. Steve Smith doesn't have Jake Delhomme throwing to him. Jake looks to him no matter what and will throw balls to him he shouldn't b/c Steve Smith will go and get them. Carr is not any good, that is why Steve Smith has played bad the last TWO weeks. So I guess Carr can hold Steve Smith down, and tha is about it. |
Re: Bench Thomas
So you are saying Fred didn't hold Smith, or T.O. (last year). Then tell me what other "Starting" CB we have that could do a better job? If other teams are targeting Fred, then why does Mckenzie miss so many plays agains a 2nd or 3rd WR?
If you read what I wrote I DO want Usama to start. I DO think he will make an impact, and he needs to start now. However, Jason David is, in my book, is lower than Fred. Don't get me wrong Fred is no where near the best thing we have ever had at CB, but he dang sure aint the only one that needs to be sat down. |
Re: Bench Thomas
Speaking of small - all of our corners and safeties are small, short is probably a better word. The tallest is 6' 1" and thats counting cleats and the head gear. Not only are they short, they are slow. Not one of them has recovery speed, not one. When a receiver gets a step on them, any of them, its over. Safeties don't even get over in time to attempt to make a play. Most every team has a big receiver these days. With the rules as they are, they have to do all they can to avoid contact beyond five yards - a hugh disadvantage for our group. These guys should play zone, disrupt receiver's release, hide in the creases, try to jump timing routes, and punish after the catch. The big plays have to stop. Force our opponents to make 10 throws, 6-8 catches during a drive. The more we are able to force extra plays and extra throws, the more opportunities there will be for mistakes to be made, and even better, for defensive plays to be made.

Re: Bench Thomas
I thought CB's were suppose to be WR's that have stone hands?
I love Devery, but why not turn him into one? |
