Payton gives his game balls
New Orleans Saints - Head Coach Sean Payton October 22
Who did the game balls go to? “On defense, Charles Grant and Josh Bullocks; on offense, Jon Stinchcomb and Jammal Brown; and on special teams, Lance Moore.” |
Re: Payton gives his game balls
I agree on all counts!

Re: Payton gives his game balls
Charles Grant was awesome.
He is out playing Will Smith this season. Good to see he is playing UP to his contract. |
Re: Payton gives his game balls
I think big Hollis Thomas could have got a game ball, he was manhandling the middle of Atlanta O-Line.

Well I would have liked to see a little more push from Hollis, but we did stop the run effectively. A DT with some push while Hollis minds his gaps would make this D line one of the best. I cannot believe he gave Stinky a game ball. I saw on a couple of separate plays where he was just flat out beaten. Brown deserved his game ball. I never saw Abraham involved in a play in the backfield. I hate to say it as losing your position when you are hurt stinks, but I believe that Goodwin outplayed Faine. I have consistently seen Faine beaten like a drum this year. Hopefully Goodwin can play well and we can address Center in the draft, or maybe one of our current backups will be up to it Goodwin, Alleman, or Bushrod. However I believe Center as the second hardest O line position behind LT and tied with RT to find a great player. Not only does he have to stand up to some nasties on the other side of the ball, he also has blocking adjustments to set. |
Re: Payton gives his game balls
What has been the cause of the timeouts taken early in halves this season?
“Yesterday I wasn’t as good. We were late getting the play in and I hate to burn (timeouts), especially in the second half when you get left with just one. I thought we handled the end of the game well, in regards to how we managed the final two minutes. But I’d prefer not to burn those for no reason. We just have to keep working through the substitutions. Drew does a pretty good job of getting us in and out of the huddle. Our tempo – when we’re going – is fairly fast. I can be a lot better that way; I need to be.” I really like hearing that from a coach. Especially the Saints coach. |
Re: Payton gives his game balls
I would think that if a play isn't in by a certain time that the QB would call something. I know that it would depend on personnel on the field but the QB should know what plays go with who he has on the field.

Re: Payton gives his game balls
The problem with the play calling appears to be situational problems. Payton waits to see the yardage we need before he calls a play which in a sense is good but he should have multiple plays ready before the next snap not wait for the outcome of the previous play. He should always have a pass play ready to go in whether it is a quick slant or play action and then he can focus on a running play or deep ball. Brees should be able to read defenses similar to P. Manning where as you can send in 3 plays and he can choose based on defensive schemes.

I think he uses them as a game break like basketball.
