Weekend of Dreams

Hello All,
I've been reading for about a year, but this is my first post on B&G. I thought some of you would like to about hear the exciting times I had (and hopefully will have) over the last few days. I've been a Saints fan living in the San Fran Bay area for the last 17 years and I’ve had to puit up with all the 49er lovers that goes with it. Last weekend, I drug one of my Oakland Raider and PAC 10 luvin' buddies down to Louisiana to show him what WATCHING FOOTBALL BIG TIME WAS LIKE!
This was my friend's first time in Louisiana. So, I knew we had to start with the French Quarter. We flew out and landed in New Orleans on Friday afternoon and headed to check into our hotel. With my friend staring in slack-jawed amazement at all the beautiful sights surrounding us (make of that what you will), we proceeded to stroll Bourbon Street for the next 6 hours, eating, drinking, and jawing with all the Auburn and Falcon fans that had come into town.
After avoiding all fights, and somehow making it back to our hotel for a few hours sleep, we hopped into our rental car the next morning (11:45 is technically morning) and headed to BR (my hometown) to begin the tailgating festivities at LSU. By 3:00, we had met up with my local family members and were tailgating in true SEC style with 120,000 or so of our closest friends. We partied like rock stars as long as we could, then made it to our seats, 3 rows up from the field in the East end zone of Tiger Stadium 5 minutes before kickoff and watched one of the greatest college football games I've seen in a long time (what a crazy f-ing ending). It was my first Tiger game in 7 years and my friend's first ever!
Then, after a few more celebratory libations in the parking lot and a cab ride back to the motel 6, we caught a few hours of shuteye and woke up to slam some caffeine and whisk our way to the Superdome to scalp tickets and catch the suddenly resurgent Saints.
Mission accomplished! We again made it to our seats with jambalaya, crawfish pies and beers in hand just in time to see the opening kickoff. Biting my nails the whole time, I watched the Saints fight, claw, fumble and stumble their way to a much-needed victory over the much hated Falcons! I couldn't believe my eyes. Here it was 8 months of planning the trip and incurring the cost paid off. Both my teams had won and I had had possibly the best sports experience of my life (definitely top 3)! And to top it off, my Oakland Raider/USC buddy was even more amazed than I though he would be. His exact quote was "I thought I had watched football before, but I hadn't seen Sh*t until now!"
I now look forward to next week when our boys come to my town to take on the Whiners. I'll be in the stands, cheering on and hoping the magic of last week continues. So, I say to all, Geaux Saints! Times may look rough, but they have before. And it's not over till the fat lady sings!

Yeah i was in N'awlins too this weekend. Bourbon Street was of course wild all weekend.....but I was disappointed that there was no flashing going on! I went in 2004 and 2006, and both times on WEDNESDAY NIGHTS NO LESS, women seemed more "daring". Oh well, it was still fun, and the Saints victory made it even sweeter! Food was great too!

Yeah, I'm not an LSU fan, but if you've never been to Tiger Stadium, then you ain't seen a real college football game.

Really good story. I wish more members would post things like this. It's so good to hear these stories than the gripping about the offensive line or other things. Thanks for posting it. Come back.

Thanks for the nice words everyone. I'll give a (hopefully happy) recap of the Niners game next week.

I have a question. Not to start a debate on the merits or lack there of of Mecham, but I can't find out if he's still hurt or not. Is he not playing because of injury?

There's a link on an old post somewhere, but Payton is not rushing him to come back from the knee surgery.

That does sound like a great weekend. I'm surprised you made it to the Saints games... especially after a LSU win. I'm would have been hungover silly.
