...in draft picks! LOL, We are sitting 8th but a win will more than likely drop us out of it depending what the other teams do.

I am so on the fence on what we should do with a top teir pick if we end up with one. My train of thought has been to trade a top pick away and get several but we blown so many so far what will it matter right. But if we grab lots of picks, someone is bound to work out???

We so badly need top teir players that its going to be hard press not using the pick to snag someone.

Is Bill Cowher ready to come back already?

It appears it doesnt matter where we pick, we obiviously cant evaluate talent and know what are needs are. If we have another off season like the last one we are in real trouble. Who was more respondsible for the off season screw-up, Payton or Loomis?

last year he was the god of the draft now he is bum. If repeats the 2006 draft he will be a god again. we got lucky in 2006 and unlucky in 2007, so far. I stress so far. A bit wishie washie don't you think.

Payton is a offensive coach. Hopefully in the next draft he remembers defense wins games. You can only go so long with an explosive offense. Sooner or later you have to rely on your defense to win the game. We need a defensive makeover. bottom line. keep the d-line maybe add some depth, keep fujita, keep mekenzie and harper, the rest need to go or ride the pine.

To whose offense are you refering? I guess you could call us explosive, if you mean that sometimes we explode onto the scoreboard and sometimes we explode all over ourselves.

Our offense is like one of those ultra high-powered cars. Oh sure, she's fast - but she's broken down as often as she's running.

I still think the 07 draft is not a total waste yet. Next year will be the telling story, or at least reveal some of the true potential. Still scratching my head over Antonio Pittman...

This is not a bad year to kind of bottom out. A top 10 pick could really help the Saints, not to mention picking top 10 in every round. Let's face it, the Saints were predicted by many to go to the Super Bowl. It's not going to happen. Even it the Saints do pull off a miracle and make it to the Super Bowl this year, does anyone in their right mind think the Saints could put up a competitive game against the likes of New England? Now I know it's always a great honor to go to the Super Bowl. It's not a great honor to get your ass kicked 60-3 in the Super Bowl. Let Dallas, Green Bay, or someone else have that for this year. They can have that blow out loss. The Saints can comeback in 08 if they do things the right way. They will need to draft smartly, and play the free agent market more aggressively. There is still a lot of talent left on the Saints team, just a few more pieces are needed.

All of the above posts make good points, but have failed to mention who is really at the core of what Payton and Loomis are able to work out, and thats Benson. There is no way a coach/GM would settle for less than exactly what they need unless they have been hand cuffed, booked, and finger printed. It certainly hasn't been, and definitely is not salary cap! Mueller couldn't take it, and got out - no big press release, just grabbed his stuff one day and left the building. I can just imagine what the Benson/Mueller conversation was like that lead to his decision to leave: two different views of what it takes to build a winning tradition. Payton may know what he wants but then Loomis has to crunch the numbers based on Benson's thrift budgetary restraints - quality vs quantity. Let's see, do we want 1 Mercedes or a Ford, 3 Kia's, and a Hyundai?

Benson owns a Mercedes dealership in NO and doesn't give discounts to players or coaches...unless it is offered by Mercedes Benz!

Benson bashers YEAH! Benson saved the Saints from moving from New Orleans. You have to look at what you got 'a business man'. You can't fault him for his business decisions, I mean he makes money and keeps the Saints in New Orleans that is a win win. I don't care much for the way he runs the team but you have to respect what he's done. The Saints were NOTHING before Benson bought them... NOTHING. They didn't win crap before him. Unfortuneately I don't think he'll ever win a Super Bowl with his management style.

If you go back to last offseason you'd see some supposedly good players being signed to big contracts... ya know what Deuce is making??? Let me tell ya if it was all about saving money Deuce wouldn't be a Saint today.

Hell why do you think the Saints drafted Reggie??? uhm to sale merchandise not to win football games. Drafting Reggie wasn't a football decision it was a business decision. There were a few football players we should have drafted instead of Reggie.

I am not a Benson fan but I know what side my bread is buttered on. I like the Saints in New Orleans and appreciate what he has been able to do to keep the Saints in New Orleans.

So unless you don't want the Saints anymore in New Orleans stop bashing Benson. I mean hell let him sale the team and move them out here to Los Angeles, we might make the a Super Bowl winner finally.

Benson has done all he can to make a dime - period. If he had his way the Saints would already be gone. Lots of people have made sacrifices, including every tax paying resident of Louisiana, in order to keep the ball club where it is. Benson made a business decision not to yank the team YET... he is still looking for an out that would go over well in the press. As for the Saints success under Benson, it was inspite of him, not because of him. He is just as satisfied selling out the Dome with a losing record as he would be with a winning record. Watch what happens when we don't come up with the extra money he's asking for...bye-bye black and gold. What a shame!

Los Angeles doesn't want a team. They can't keep a team. How many times have they had a team? More than I care to remember. None of them stayed. Maybe I'm wrong but i really don't think they'll ever keep a team. Seems the the people out there tire of teams,no matter how good or bad they are. The only team they've kept is the Lakers. That doesn't say much for moving a team out there.

Like Hagan said, we got lucky last year, real lucky and I think we have played to the teams potential this year. Reggie trying to do to much, running east to west, Drew is all over the place, one game hot, one game cold, coaches inconsistency in calling plays, defense can stop the run one minute and get burned the next, secondary couldn't stop an old lady from crossing the street.

You name it and it's a problem. We made a feeble attempt at filling holes in the secondary last off season and the d-line. Next off season someone better make sure those holes are filled and how long have those holes been there anyway. Hell since Haslett came to town and that's a long, long time.

You have to realize he is a business man and you have to have something to negociate with and that is LA. You have the attempt to go somewheres so La. would give whatever they can to keep the Saints. Thats smart business. If you had nothing to negociate with then you wouldn't get anything.

For Example you can apply for a job and get offered minimum wage from company A but you have experiance and company B offers you a dollar more an hour but you'd rather work at company A even at minimum wage so you go to them and say I got an offer for a dollar more from another company I'd like to work for you can you match it?

JOE - YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT! We do however have lots of sports teams here but an NFL team is a different animal. Larger beast that it is compared to the teams that are here.

I tried to shed some light on this issure in the past couple of years. Living out here I can tell you we aren't so hard press for a team and really can care less. Reason - Oakland and San Diego and USC not so much the 49ers though. It would be really hard press to find a fan base here with everyone already with the alliances with Oak and SD. I don't think a team would be successful at all especially if they come in losing either.

To be successful, I think you would need an expansion team. A team with history here will only fail like the others (fail - bad choice or words). Its just cheaper to be in any other area than here business wise, you're going to get more savings being anywheres else! You have to realize that to live in LA its EXPENSIVE! To have a business here is EXPENSIVE. Benson isn't stupid when it comes to business you are not going to make more money here with the overhead you are going to have out here, its cheaper in Lousiana than in LA PERIOD. You'll spend more money on staff and operations than you would anywheres else inturn you'll make more money being else where.

Its not good business to move a team here. They come here and find that out real fast and GONE the next day. We have lots of sports teams don't get me wrong. Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, Clippers, KINGS Galaxy, Ducks just to name a few. Notice that they are small teams and one can argue that they don't cost as much to operate than an NFL franchise.

Trust me the Saints are safe in La. not LA. When you hear LA mention in negociations its only a business tactic nothing more. Now if another smaller city was mentioned then I'd worry.
