Re: multi million dollar question?
I think Grant does deserve the contract, believe it or not. I watched a running play (was it running - I'm a little drunk, bear with me). But if I remember right, it was a running play. And the ball was 15 or 20 yards past the line of scrimmage. They were moving on us. And who was in the mix to make the tackle?... Charles Grant. He had NO BUSINESS being in the play that long after the line got passed, but there he was, hustling his heart out.
Plays like that earn my respect. |
Re: multi million dollar question?
we better not let smith go, he and grant are the only ones on this D i wanna see stick around

Re: multi million dollar question?
Don't forget Fujita. He's a keeper too.

Re: multi million dollar question?
The defense has a ton upgrades to do. If you look at Grants contract and remember the growth of the salary cap his contract does not look that bad in 2009. Smith is young and has plenty of years left in him. With some interior help and LB these two will have their game go to the next level. I still have faith in the two. They need a press CB, a big young DT, a Stud MLB and an aggressive WLB that can take over a game. That will take a couple of years to pull off but there is hope. Let us start of with CB first. Unfortunately Duce maybe out and a RB like Johnathan Stewart maybe on the board. I hope not.

I know that he isn't getting the numbers we'd all like to see, and he's not getting enough pressure. But I think I'm with Hagan on this one. Put better players around him, and I think Grant will really shine, will start getting the numbers you'd expect from a marquis contract. |

As a pure player, no. He needs to step up his game and produce more. He's ok against the run. His pass rushing skills seem to have diminished some. He has very few sacks this year. But who on this defense has very many? No one. All these guys aren't playing to their best. Brian Young was playing very well till his injury. We'll have to wait and see how he does now. Smith isn't playing up to his ability either right now, but there might be reasons for that too. When you're the only player putting forth any kind of effort, other teams notice this and they do what it takes to neutralize you. Are they doing this to Smith, yeah, probably. So, there are many answers to your question. All are right and all are wrong. Take your pick. |

Re: multi million dollar question?
I think the way to look at it is to question how this D would be without Grant and Smith. Someone else would've paid their asking price. Would we then be able to sign a DE of Grant's abilities that some are calling into question? Unlikely. Would we be able to draft another Smith? Even less likely. I agree that a couple more pieces at DT and LB would free up the DEs more, and some more heat would mask our shaky secondary.

Re: multi million dollar question?
I agree that Smith, Hollis and Grant would be excellent in a 3 - 4 scheme, but that entails going out and finding 3 other LB's who can actually run and tackle besides Fujita. God I hate Simenoux. He is just useless. Did you see two guys block Fujita on that run around the edge and Simenoux just stand there watching as the RB went around them. He sucks so hard.

I for one think that Simmons could be a good OLB in a 3-4 scheme and Fujita could do pretty well as a ILB. Simoneaux blows hard and must have pictures of Gibbs and Peyton naked with farm animals. Actually with Gibbs he seems so clueless with the personnel he has and the scheme that he thinks they can play that he may think Simoneaux is good. |
Re: multi million dollar question?
Ok, guys I've been letting some of this language slide, but if it keeps up look for me to start editing your posts. I think you know what i'm talking about. If you can't find a way to say someone isn't very good other than the way you're saying it pm me and i'll help you out. This stuff is just not needed.
