Olindo Mare Out, Saints Add Martin Gramatica Posted Dec 12th 2007 11:48AM by Michael David Smith Ladies and gentlemen, Martin Gramatica is back in the NFL. Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Gramatica, who played briefly last season for the Cowboys and had his greatest NFL success with the Buccaneers, will sign with the Saints, who lost kicker Olindo Mare to an injury in Monday night's win over the Falcons. Gramatica also had a couple of stints with the Colts, and he was on the Patriots' roster for a short time, but he never played in a regular-season game for New England. More importantly, I just out-scooped QBrees9, finally!!!! |

Mind you he should be able to set his sights with them eyes. In-built triangulation. |

For the love of god. we sign a kicker that is no better than the one we had. To top it off the new kicker does not have the leg to get into the end zone to boot. I do not see the improvement. There must be something in the contract that led to this move.
4th rounder we trade up for is cut 5th rounder is cut 6th round pick traded away for a kicker we just cut. OK lets just say we had one of the worse use of day 2 draft picks in the saints history. |

well i was startin to love Mare also well we gotta put are focus on what they called automatic gramatica and hope he's who show's up and hopefully just for extra points but i always believe so give em a number and lets play some football this Sunday

Well I am still concern about our kick coverage unit. I guess we will find out how good they are now that every kick off will be returnable. |

I may be wrong, but based on their stats, I think that Gramatica is an improvement over Mare. Gramatica only had 8 attempts, but he did convert on 75% of them, with the longest being 48 yards. He was also 14-14 on PAT's. However, Carney is better than either of them IMO, but, unfortunately, we missed two opportunities to re-sign him this season.

From what I saw in my time in TB he couldn't hit near the end zone nearly enough times on kickoffs.

One thing no one is mentioning (which is a huge asset), is Mare's ability to onside kick. The guy is money.
Now, if we could keep Bullocks off the 'hands' team :( |

I'm guessing that Weatherford will be kicking off again.
Weatherford has been the most consistent player for the Saints all year. |

Hey, if he's 50% he's as good as what we had. Have faith until he proves you wrong. Seems like everybody's down on him already and he hasn't kicked a ball for us yet. Sure he has a past but as much of it was good as was bad. Give the guy a chance.
