Worried about Philly

I'm worried, plain and simple

I was watching the Eagles play Dallas yesterday to sort of get a preview of how they're playing right now. My single summary comment here is; their record does not describe their team.

Their defense was flying all over the place making plays and getting monstrous pressure on the QB with those crazy all-angle blitzes they like to call. They were seemingly able to stuff the run completely. Their offense was able to open holes for Westbrook and we all know dangerous that guy can be in space. His "dropping at the one" to seal the game tells me a lot about how their players see the team as top priority. I know that many wouldn't have done that, but Westbrook did. McNabb is slower than he used to be but he made some plays by moving around in the pocket buying time.

What to be optimistic about. The Eagles defense focused on covering T.O. and still weren't able to get it done reliably. Were it not for Tony Romo's horrible accuracy, I saw a lot of plays that could have been made. If we can protect Drew Brees and he's having an "on" day, we may be able to take advantage of that.

With that being the only thing I see as a big plus, and it being contingent on some "ifs"; I am worried.....

Teams could have said the same thing about New Orleans if they watched us play (at times) this year. Philly blew their energy on Dallas. They played up. They played hard and they got over that team for themselves and their coach.

Coming back to New Orleans won't be easy. The Saints look determined to succeed (in spite of past losses) and more focused as a team than I've seen this year.

I think we have the right players in the right positions for Philly, we win. Grammatica should be Automattica!!

Beating the Cowboys was no easy task... however like you said Frenzy, if Brees is having his on game, I think we'll have a lot of success against their secondary. We run a lot of short stuff and Witten was able to dominate. We should be able to take advantage of that with our passing game.

We've beat Philly a couple of times last year I believe... and I'm optimistic we'll do it again. Limit Westbrook and prevent any long bombs to Curtis down field are keys. Westbrook is going to have a good game... we all know that. Just don't let him have THAT good of a game.

I don't trust Philly. We're probably a home dog anyway, given how well we defend the crib. I'd say we're a 3 point underdog.

Gotta bring it or it's over. Every game's a playoff now.

I'm worried about the Saints/Eagles game, as well. It looks every bit like a let down game for us, the fans. But I hope I'm wrong.

I hope we are dogs... we seems to play better when we are.

Edit:

I just checked the lines and we're giving Philly 3 points.

Can't argue this that, but Philly has played like that in every game of their last four including against the Giants (loss by 3), the Seahawks (loss by 4) and the hated Patriots (loss by 3). Somehow after all those heartbreaking (and energy sapping) losses, they kept their energy high and beat Dallas. Maybe finally winning one after all that will do exactly as you say. I hope it does.

I think we can beat them if we play like champions, but they are a LOT better than their record shows and I'm nervous. Any half-stepping at all (like the two fumbles lost this week), and they will wipe the floor with us.

I'm pumped about this game. I just love the budding rivalry.

Philly's probably P.O.ed after two losses last year, but it'll be a different Saints team Sunday. Without Reggie and Deuce, they're getting the passing game in full force.

Brian Westbrook-RB-Eagles Dec. 17 - 12:51 pm et

Brian Westbrook suffered a knee contusion in Sunday's game.

It's reportedly the same knee bruise that's hindered Westbrook only slightly all season. Expect him to be limited in or miss some practices this week.

Takeo Spikes-LB-Eagles Dec. 17 - 12:48 pm et

Eagles WLB Takeo Spikes tore his rotator cuff in Sunday's win.

The Eagles hope Spikes can continue to play with the injury. If Spikes needs surgery and misses the final two weeks, Omar Gaither would likely slide to the weak side with Stewart Bradley possibly taking over at middle linebacker.

While I am worried as well, One major thing sticks out at me. ROMO looked horrible, yes he had pressure, but he flat out missed passes all game. His injured thumb is a bigger problem than Dallas is letting on or either it was worse yesterday than it had been. Brees will not miss on the passes that Romo was missing on. Our receivers will not quit on routes or give up on a ball the way TO and Co did a couple of times.

We are a better Offense than Dallas, as long as Drew can get the pass off we should be fine, if they get to him really quick then we are in for a world of hurt.

As much as I have banged on the O line this year I believe they will play up for the game, they know that if they give Brees time that he will make them look good.

Remember one thing. The eagles circled this game at the beginning of the season. So high noon has arrived.
Westbrook is always list on the injury report. He will play.

Re: Worried about Philly

If the Saints play as they have the last two games they'll beat the Eagles hands down, Westbrook won't run well as he did against the Cowboys so the pressure will be on McNabb and that's a win win situation for the Saints.

We completely obliterated the Jaguars, and how many people gave us a chance in that game?

Same here, we had to prove it day in and day out last season - nothing's changed, we're still doubted. We'll still prove everyone wrong.

Confidence, I believe they will come up with a big WIN. The SAINTS are rolling.

This is the game that will tell us if we are a playoff team. Eagles have a lot of pride. They maybe out of it now but they will leave it all on the field Sunday

I agree. Some have suggested that the Eagles will concede their last two games but the Eagles have an aggressive defense and a true weapon at running back and that makes for a long Sunday for the Saints.

I am worried about Philly.

Re: Worried about Philly

We owned them last season...but that was with Deuce running like a freight train all over them and they had no answer for him.

I hope Stecker is up for the challenge. But more importantly, I hope that Payton has the team/ playbook ready with some smashmouth ball and not the cutesy crap he calls when Bush is in.

Oh. Did I mention how much I hate the Iggles? It would be an awesome homecoming this weekend to have our Saints spank those mutants back to the Cheesesteak City!!!!

Hey, let's all head over to the Eagles message board and talk smack !!

Just kidding!

Anyway, I want to see the Saints play their hearts out in this game. Leave it all out on the field.
