Final Roster Predictions
It's way to early to be sure of the final 53 roster, but barring injuries or trades here is my pre-preseason take on how it will look on opening day. Drum roll please.......
OFFENSE Lineman - Gandy, Jacox, Fontenot, Bentley, Riley, Folau, Holland, Stinchcomb, Sanderson, Setterstrom Receivers - Horn, Stallworth, Pathon, M. Lewis, D. Lewis, Kelly Tight Ends - Conwell, Sloan, Rasby Fullback - Smith R. Backs - McAllister, Keaton, McAfee Q. Backs - Brooks, Bouman, Woodbury DEFENSE Lineman - Howard, Grant, Sullivan, Jackson, Ford, Chase, Whitehead, Smith Linebackers - Ruff, Grant, Smith, Allen, Hodge, Rodgers Def. Backs - Carter, Ambrose, Thomas, Craver, Brown, Elpheage, Jones, Mitchell, Bellamy, Hawthorne Specialists - Carney, Berger, Houser ( Boo Williams is traded for future draft consideration unless injury at TE position occurs. 10 players on edge who could possibly make team should injuries occur are: Talman Gardner, James Fenderson, Steve Gleason, J.T. O'Sullivan, Curtis Holden, Roger Knight, Demetrius Smith, P.J. Alexander, Kenderick Allen) Practice Squad - Kenderick Allen, Talman Gardner, Zachary Hilton, Melvin Williams, P.J. Alexander It is hard enough trying to make the cut to 53. Reducing it to dressing out a game day 45 man roster is even tougher. Does this league rule make any sense? You are paying 53 players their salary whether they dress out or not. One week a guy is in street clothes on the sidelines inactive and the next week he may be active and seeing significant playing time. This must have something to do between the owners and the players association because no other employer would otherwise be willing to pay someone and ask that he not do his job. I say let them all dress out if they are on the team. It is about as dumb as having 16 regular season games and 4 or more preseason games where the season ticket holders are forced to pay full price for an exhibition. The players would want more money if the regular season was extended to 18 games and the preseason shortened to 2 games and the owners don't want it changed because they are getting same revenue for the preseason games. This logic is based on the idea that they are regular or preseason games and the players paychecks are paid out weekly over 16 weeks following each regular season game. Increasing the number of regular season games to 18 would then entitle the players to 2 additional paychecks. How about a different method of payment. Base salaries are for a season. Have a 2 week holdback period like most employers and make payday on the 1st and the 15th of the month. The games are being played anyway as it is. The outcome just doesn't have any meaning. The owners could make some adjustment. Then the fans would be getting full entertainment for their dollar. Surely that isn't asking to much, or is it? |
