Re: Looking for a new head coach?
He's done wonders to the 3-13 team he inherited. Let's not jump the gun on him so fast. And like Euphoria said, whether you like it or not, he's going to be here next season... and probably the year after that barring a disastrous season. I hope your views of him will change with a strong group of free agent signings and a solid draft. I truly feel Payton is the right man for the job.

Re: Looking for a new head coach?
I'm sorry, but this is a terrible thread. You guys sound like a bunch of Alabama fans clamouring for the Bear. Fire a coach that has a losing record? That's almost half the coaches in the league. I want the Saints to win as much as the next guy, but some of you are acting like we piss superbowls in New Orleans.
Do you think Lombardies, Ladrys and Parcellses grow on trees? Sure coach has made some bone-head moves. He's terrible with TOs and the red flag, but it's not like he can't improve. He's 18-16 as the head coach of the Saints and joins Mora as the only other coach in Saints history with a winning record. |

Re: Looking for a new head coach?
Belichick, Dungy these coaches do not grow on trees. Remember that the Steelers didn't can Cowher, and he didn't set the world on fire, but built a consistent winner that won a Superbowl.
Would I want a Belichick or Dungy? Your damn right I would, who wouldn't? However Dungy was largely considered a failure before he went to Indy. The Bucs went to the playoffs numerous times, but it took time. Do I want Sean Peyton to morph into Lombardi right this instant? Yes, but that isn't realistic, Belichick wasn't even that great to start off with it took time. In a way we are a victim of our own success in that we want a SB now, even though right this minute we are a team with average talent. Yes we are average talent wise. When healthy we have maybe 4 or 5 players on Defense that would start for more than half of the teams in the league. When healthy on offense we have maybe 6 players that would start for more than half the other teams in the league, and one that would start for almost all the teams but two. Our team talent has improved since Peyton showed up, and hopefully it will continue to do so as we need a team built through the draft to stay competitive for years to come. |
Offensive Coordinator to rebuild Saint's defense
Is everybody in the NFC laughing at our predicament? An offensive coordinator is poised to rebuild the Saint defense! Here we go for the 2nd time! Didn't our defense go backwards from last year. Wasn't that the part of the team we were building so we could make it to the Superbowl? Do we need more proof that defense, which is what we desperately need, is not in the area of Sean Payton's expertise? Our only realistic aspiration under Sean Payton is to get into the playoffs. Our team, our fans, our city, deserves to aspire for more.
We tasted a real opportunity not too long ago. It should have made us all even more hungry! We need a more seasoned HC. Especially now! |
Re: Offensive Coordinator to rebuild Saint's defense
OK, I am now curious. For argument sakes, lets say that Payton is fired, demoted, or whatever. If you were given the position of authority with the New Orleans Saints, who do you name as your head coach? And no, you cannot hire a head coach that is currently employed by an NFL team.
