Meachem looking forward to offseason

Meachem looking forward to offseason- NOLA.com

"It was a humbling experience," said Meachem, who said he put his faith in God and leaned heavily on his fellow receivers for moral support. "At times it's stressful. At times you're just like, 'I've got to deal with this. This is a new life.' You know, coming in, a first-round draft pick, you've got a lot of expectations. And you want to do so good, not just for everybody else, but for yourself.

"And at times it's stressful, because you're competitive. When you can't compete out there like you want to at times, it's hard."

Maybe the first year on the sidelines will turn Meachem into a great player. Too many times young players are thrown to the wolves, way before they are ready for it. Maybe this will turn out to be a blessing. It's rare these days for a 1st round player to get a chance to learn first. I am sure Meachem will work his butt off in preparation for the 2008 season. I am sure he knows he has the chance to be penciled in as an opening day starter.

They do that to QB's why not a WR like Meachem. I just hope this was a wake call. Your a PRO now. This AINT College.

Signed with full knowledge of his injury and knew that he would miss some/most of season... mistake? Maybe... Yet to be determined.

Thrown to the fire is not a bad thing for rookies. Veterans are thrown into it every day.

It's all up to Meach now. Meach and Meach alone. I'm pulling for him!

Even though he had only 1 really good college year, I believe that this guy will be pretty good. I hope that the Saints keep Copper and get rid of Henderson and plug in Meachem.

Well the saints have done everything they could to protect the investment. Top notch doctors and a full season of rehab to strengthen it. Now in the off season he can build on this. I hope he has been hitting the books and has digested the play book so it is an automatic reflex now.
Show time is less than a year away.

...so he can continue to not play football.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Let's see...how stressful is it to decide which warm-up suit to wear to the game on Sunday. At a salary of roughly $17 million over 5 yrs he got paid about $3.4 million and didn't even have to break a sweat. That stress can be a b--ch, can't it?

Well, all I can say is he'd better at least make the lineup. Not because I"m pissed that he didn't play his first year. Rather, because I'm pissed that a WR was chosen with our #1. To lessen LoE's personal pain, he'd better at least make the lineup. If he doesn't, I'll be completely disgusted with Saints management. As it is, I'm just mostly partially tentatively disgusted with Saints management.

Hear that Saints management? Please prove me wrong.

If that's all he does, he's already doing better than Sullivan.

I certainly hope so. Football is the worst sport for fans and organizations alike expecting so much out of draft picks. Unlike baseball and hockey where players generally do not even play for 3-4 seasons until they develop within the organization, the NFL is a right now league.

I think the year learning, watching and absorbing will benefit Meachem. Stallworth came in quick and struggled not only because of injury but with his maturity. I'm not saying it always is for the best as Henderson is a prime example of plateauing or regressing his potential. But I certainly hope having guys like Payton, Brees, Patton and even a very mature youngster like Colston surrounding him, that Meachem will have a better grasp of the technique and mental side of things and let his athleticism catch up next season.
