2008 Saints mock draft
rounds 1-7 no anticipation of trades
Round 1:Kenny Phillips S 6’2 210 Miami Imagine a mixture of Ed Reed and Sean Taylor in our secondary Round 2:Terrell Thomas CB USC 6'1 200 Thomas is a corner that has very good size, and is not afraid to get physical with receivers. He doesn’t shy away from contact, and is active in run support. He is not just a big guy however. He shows the ability cover down the field, and has the awareness to pick up the ball in the air and make plays on it Round 3:J Lehman LB 6’3 243 Illinois Very few people play the game with the passion and intensity that Lehman does. He goes hard on every snap, and attacks until the play is over. He plays with fantastic instincts and can read the play and react before the play develops. His intelligence allows him to make plays all over the field.Lehman has the ideal attitude for a linebacker, and his combination of intensity and intelligence will allow him to play in the NFL. Round 4:Martellus Bennett TE 6’7 250 Texas AM Bennett is a nightmare matchup because of his combination of physical skills. His combination of size and athleticism is fantastic. He has excellent height and has the quickness to get open and the body control to use his body to go up and get the football. He could be a major threat in the red zone in the NFL. Round 5: Mike Fladell, Rutgers OG Height: 6-8. Weight: 325. Blocked for Ray Rice nuff Said Round 6: Frank Morton, Tulane DTHeight: 6-3. Weight: 327. Round 7: Davon Bess WR Hawaii Undrafted Free Agent Signed Jason Shirley, Fresno State Height: 6-5. Weight: 330. 40 Time: 4.98. A monstrous nose tackle who runs a sub-five 40 how'd i do? would the saints fans be happy with the 2008 draft?is this realistic do ya think? |
Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
I could almost live with it. Nice job.
Draft Round 1 James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State Jr, 6-3, 244 Sorry I go ILB. If he is not there I would trade down There are a couple of good FS in the draft as well as good CB that project out better as safeties. I am just not sold on the kid I guess. Sell me |
Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
I have a gut feeling that the Saint's are going to draft Keith River, LB, out of USC.
|
Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
I think #10 overall is a little high for a safety. I like the OSU linebacker, or Ellis from USC, but not sure he will go that high.
|
Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
The saints need to get an Inside Linebacker....the free agent market this year is very poor, and its something that needs to be addressed in the draft.

Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
I see quite of few Saints fans having Phillips as our number one choice on a lot of boards. As much as I like him, I'd also rather have a LB or CB with our first pick. It's been long overdue. Our safeties are young... hopefully they'll continue to learn and get better. A stopgap is already on our team in KK and we can address the other spot via free agency if need be.
I like picks 2, 4, 5, and 7. I really don't know much about Lehman or Morton. Will definately have a better feel for them as workouts start. I think Bennett goes in the 3rd and with good workouts, late 2nd. But if he falls to the 4th, it should be a no brainer pick. |
Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
If Laurenitis is gone then the only pick is Rey Maualuga, USC. Did anyone else see this guy in the Rose Bowl? Good God. I think he might be a little better than Laurenitis. He reminds me of a young Junior Seau.

Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
He has stated that he will return to USC for his senior season.

Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
Laurinaitis will be gone by the time we pick (unless we trade up), the draft is hard to figure out but if hes still available when the patriots select they will pick him. thats the only sure thing i see happening in the draft so far.

He's said the numerous of times before and after the game. However there's plenty of time before the deadline in which he certainly could change his mind. Sign Up Click on that link also. |

NE will pick who ever they want they do not care about rankings. CB is a big need as well as LB. They may end up addressing LB through FA. As usual. Then you have the bengals. They will snatch him up. That leaves us with the seconds of everything. Key trade down position. How far depends on who we go after. At this point we can pray for a player to drop or trade back and collect picks so we can address more positions on the field. Me, I would be open to trading all the way back to dallas at 22. No lower. Cap room would be a benefit as well as getting good picks and or players to boot. Target at 22: Aquib Talib, 6 - 2, 193, 4.45, Kansas or Justin King, 6-0, 186, 4.34, CB Penn State Jr. I think the end of round 2 could be a Key location this year. Some gambles there look pretty good. Picking up an additional 4th would help us move around on day 2 when the third round starts. |

Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
That is as far down as I would go an expect to get a player that could start. Any where higher is good to.
I just really like this kid Aquib Talib, Kansas and think he is going to the next great thing since slided bread at FS. He is a hitter that wraps up when tackling. He also has the hands to change a game. He is like a hawk in the way he plays the ball in the air. Justin King, Penn State is probably the most gifted CB in the draft. If he stays next year he will without a doubt be the first CB taken in the draft in 2009. CB/KR/WR with the speed and size to back all three position up. His ceiling is scary. Dallas will make a bid to move up. I am thinking WR. DeSean Jackson, WR, California Jr, 6-0, 166, 4.30, Is the guy they will target if they move up. Then again I picture this kid in a saints uniform as a WR/KR and I have to admit I smile at the possiblities he Mitcheam and Colston combined could do. With bush as a flanker.:p LOL nightmare city for DC for years to come.:o LOL but alas way to much money tied up in one position. Back to reality:mad: I like stock piling picks this year or next. I prefer both. I watch the Pats do it every year. It works. |
Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
I'm not so sure. It's not often a LB is chosen in the top ten. I'm banking Laurinaitis will be there at #10.
|
Re: 2008 Saints mock draft
Good job, I like the first 3 but love Fladell alot, but I don't think he'll last that long.

[QUOTE=hagan714;151441]. Dallas will make a bid to move up. I am thinking WR. DeSean Jackson, WR, California Jr, 6-0, 166, 4.30, Is the guy they will target if they move up.
I agree Dallas will attempt to move up. I read speculation that Dallas is targeting Phillips. If true, I would take their two first round choices for the Saints #10. #10 carries a value of 1300 points (from the value chart), and Dallas has pick #22 with a value of 780 points and their second first round pick is projected at #30 (subject to the playoffs) with a value of 620 points. Moving down twelve slots...the Saints COULD still get an impact player that will save them some $$$$$ that can be used to resign Colston and/or Smith. The Cowboys throw in Carpenter and the Saints throw in Henderson to make the deal! Both players need a change of scenery! As you said previously...Loomis get Jerry Jones on the phone. LOLOLOL |
