Should the Saints be interested?
If this is true, I think the Saints should make a run at him. He is still only 32, and could be a key addition for a couple of seasons. Draft a young guy to groom as his replacement, and the MLB position could be in great hands for several seasons. What do you guys think?
FOX Sports on MSN - Rumors - Ben Maller's sports rumors and notes Ray Lewis could force way out of Baltimore? Ray Lewis, who missed the final two games with a dislocated finger after having his best season since 2003, is signed for one more year. Will he play out his deal and go from there, or will he demand a contract extension or push the Ravens to trade him? -- Baltimore Examiner |
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
no
not at all if it was the Ray Lewis of 4-6 years ago yes but not now he is a liability and on the downside of his career |
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Good question. If you remember a few years ago when the D line for baltimore wasnt very good Lewis was pretty much ineffective all year and i dont see our line being any better than theirs was then, plus hes older now. Even still, its probably better than anything we had this year.

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
I dont think bringing in Ray Lewis is the solution to our problem. He will be looking for more money then he is worth. He is on the downfall of his career and is starting to become very injury prone. Id pass on Ray

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Just say No To RAY. But Thank You !!!

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Wow, I am amazed at how many would not like the move. He is coming off a 120 tackle season and is a true leader. I do not view him as the overall solution to the Saints problems, but could be productive for a couple seasons while he helps bridge the gap for his eventual replacement. I also think his presence would elevate the players around him.

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
I can't say I would be upset if we picked him up, but I don't think he would be the savior of of the defense. 32 isn't young in the NFL.

I think it all depends upon money, and who else is available in the draft and FA. Ray Lewis on the downside of his career is better than almost all of our current LB's in their "prime". For a incentive laden contract I would jump at the opportunity for a leader and a guy who gives it everything he has like Ray does. |
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
HELL YES. Ray brought it this year. He might not be the league MVP like he was a few years ago, but the guy is head and shoulders above the rest of our linebackers. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Is Ray Lewis better than ANY lb coming out of college right now? Is Ray better than all the Saints current lbs? If you answered yes to both questions, nuff said.

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
I'd take Ray.
I'd glady welcome ANY playmaker to our team. |
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
no way.....he is a bad apple who is not what he used to be on the field
|
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
How is he a bad apple? He's been the emotional leader of the consistently best defense in the NFL for the last half 7 years.

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Just Say No! To drugs and NFL players 30+.
We need speed and aggressiveness on defense along with a change in scheme. The only "character" there should be on this team is mercilessness. i.e. Dome Patrol |

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Think about this: the most emotional player in the Saints D is Fujita. He’s the only one I see trying to get guys fired up and barking instructions pre-snap. Bringing in a Ray Lewis would be more about bringing attitude to the defense than play.
… that said, if you had a choice at MLB between Ray Lewis and Mark Simoneau…. |
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Ray"s best years are behind him, I'd look at other options before signing Ray, IMO he's pretty much done, we need to spend the money on our secondary, now if our defense was solid in all positions I'd think about signing him to a 2 year deal at best.
With this said I think he's a great leader for his defense, he brings out the best in his teammates but it's just that he's drawing near the end of his career. |
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
i say no, maybe him and his posse would 'STAB" SOMEONE AT ROCK' N' BOWL!!

And for anybody who says he's not the Ray Lewis of years past, you might be right. But I'll tell you what, if I could get a guy who would post 121 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and a defensive touchdown every season, I'd take him in a heart beat. He might not be MVP of the league, but he still racked up the 12th most tackles in the league. He had 27 more tackles than the nearest Saint. Yes, he's old, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have 3 or 4 more years in him. If it was me, I'd bring Ray Lewis in without a hesitation. |

I agree. I'd glady take Ray. The #'s he posted this year, were done while playing injured. |

Re: Should the Saints be interested?
First of all, I doubt that Brian Billick was fired because of Ray Lewis' comments. It was probably more to do with the fact that they have underachieved mightily over the last few seasons.
And the run in with the law had nothing to do with Lewis. He was a witness. He didn't leave his car. You might be right, Payton might not want him, but I think he'd be a great addition to the team. |
Re: Should the Saints be interested?
Billick was fired for that lost to Miami.
