Kenny Phillips or BUST
We had better draft this guy. 6-1 with 4.40 speed would be a perfect FS to play along side Harper. I'm not kidding. If we draft anyone else while he is still on the board I am just going to lose it. If I have to go through one more season of watching Bullocks get burnt again I'm going to burn down the Superdome.
I will now go take my meds prescribed to me after the Tampa game. |
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I'm with you, it looks like this guy is the real deal. In today's NFL the safety positions are extremely critical. It's not a position that you can afford to be weak in. Add this guy to play along side of Harper, and things should start to get better in a hurry.

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
heard ya on that
thats my pick to check it out on my 7 round mock draft http://blackandgold.com/forums/new-o...ock-draft.html |
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I'd get his jersey in every color if we got him.

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I have trouble with him getting past NE. Merriweather can slide over to CB and NE usually does not pass up play makers. They also seem to like veteran LB. Could Suggs end up in NE? They will have the cash. There have been whispers.

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
Suggs wants to play for the cards, and New England would have to give up a first for Chad, and the pats dont like rookie lbs early

doubt the Bengals arent as dumb as the Raiders, maybe if they could tag samuel and send him then yes, but he has a clause in his contract that says no

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
Am I the only one not crazy about Kenny Phillips? I think he'd be a good pick, but in terms of need, we NEED a cornerback. I think that if we could get KK into the starting lineup with Harper, that'd be a lot better. But we need that corner help.
|
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
how many rookie corners make an impact? How many safeties exactly
|
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I'm not sold on him either. I think he'd be a fine player but he's not in the class of Ed Reed or LaRon Landry, and with KK turning it up in the last couple weeks, I'd rather we get an impact LB first or trade down (I don't see any corners worth the #10 pick).

Im sold on Rey Malohbdsukfbgu. The guy is good, prays he comes out. And on Phillips, why not?? Its either him, Talib, Jenkins, Rivers, or Conner for me. Phillips is a true playmaker, and the U has a knack for producing darn good safeties

We have 0 playmakers on Defense. Phillips is who we need. |

Like most of y'all, I've watched and re-watched every Saints game this year. KK hasn't shown me anything that shows that he's the long term solution to our lack of a playmaker in the Secondary. We all see something different in KK, but I enjoy discussing it with all of you. GO SAINTS!!!! |
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
More Safeties make an impact in their first year than corners
|
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
KK is a pretty solid player, and it's a crime he wasn't starting from day one. He and Harper should do fine at safety. This isn't to say I wouldn't like Phillips with the pick, but I don't think he'd be the right pick. We need an athletic LB and a speedy CB in the worst way. Keith Rivers would be better at #10, IMO.

Phillips is the best Safety in a so-so draft for FS. Most of the good prospects at FS are CBs. This fact may have inflated his value a bit. But he deffinitly has the specs for FS. SS is different. Got a pretty good looking group there. |
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I would just love to see an impact linebacker on this team. When was the last time the Saints had a very good linebacker?
|
Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I'm so torn at who I want... there's just so many holes on defense.

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
Holes? one large gapping wound is more like it.
I look at the JRs staying and the way they would have effected the board if they had entered and I wonder if it is best to use this pick and try to get an established vet in a trade down. Or just use the pick to get that impact player or two we need on defense with this pick and try to get in the top five of round 2 while doing it. Roberston and Vilma from the jets and swap #2 for our #10. If we think we can replace Stinch with a draft choice then add him to the mix and get thier #2 straight out. Of course Vilma would have to check out ok and a contract deal would need to be worked out. So maybe get the #2 and do a conditional pick deal in 2009, keeping stinch or not, and base it on how everything works out. You just killed two birds with one stone and got young vets in return. The jets dump two #1s that do not fit the system they are running. They get a RT they need. Sounds like a win win to me. Besides we would be sending the player picked to an AFC team to compete with the Pats. No I am not sold on Philips. He might be standing out among the Ss because of how thin the group of S really are. There is more talk about all the good CB that might better at S than the S themselves. Last year he would have been a mid first rounder at best. I lean towards the bottom third myself. Maybe top of the second round |
