First thing, bring charges against Jason "3rd Down" David for impersonating an NFL CB... then cut his lil' behind

... then re-work Colston's contract

No to Samuel: yes to Asomugha if he isn't tagged

Yes to Faneca

Clark is not leaving Indy.

Draft.... I like Phillips, but would have a hard time picking between him and Talib...

I don't know how Indy can afford him.

They gave Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeny, and Bob Sanders HUGE deals.
How can they pay Dallas Clark too????

Indy has already stated that if they can't come to an agreement on a contract for Dallas Clark, they're going to franchise him. He's not going anywhere.

I posted this on earlier this offseason... but this is what I'd like for us to do.

I'm just going to put a list of guys who I think we actually have a chance at. Albert Haynesworth and Nnamadi Asomugha are more than likely to be franchised. It would be nice if we could have either but that's just not going to happen.

For the backup quarterback position, I would like us to sign Josh McCown to backup Brees. He has a big arm and capable of being a starter in this league. Should Brees ever go down, heaven forbid, I'd feel more comfortable with McCown than Martin.

At running back, should we decide to not retain Deuce, these are guys would I would look at... Chris Brown, TJ Duckett, LaBrandon Toefield, Ron Dayne, and Aaron Stecker. If we aren't going to commit to letting Bush run full time back there, we need a grinder and these guys fit the bill. I was going to mention Julius Jones, but he wants to be a full time starter and that's not happening here.

At receiver my main target was Crayton... but it looks like he's about to sign an extension with Dallas. Moving forward my next target would be Bryant Johnson... good size, speed, route running, and his hands aren't bad. He surely won't break bank either. I think he could surprise here in New Orleans. Other names are Andre Davis, DJ Hackett, Jabar Gaffney, and David Patten. There are some quality guys on the market that are all affordable.

At tight end re-sign Billy Miller and also consider Ben Utecht of the Colts. He's also been solid there when his number was called. I'd like to see what he could do in an expanded role.

At OL, the only two options that I want and realistically can get are two Steelers... Faneca and Max Starks. Bring Starks in to push Stinchcomb and Faneca could instantly be put in Nesbit's position. We would have to maulers at guard which should help Bush not becoming so hesitant to hit those holes. At center re-sign both Faine and Goodwin and let them battle it out. I'm confident Faine is just having a off year and he'll rebound next season. We have yielded the least amount of sacks this year. People here tend to think highly of Goodwin, though only two games, so re-sign him also. May the best player win.

I'm not impressed with the free agent linebackers. I think Briggs is a bit overrated and being in Chicago's system definitely plays a big part in his success. I wouldn't break bank for the guy... I'm interested in finding players that can get to the quarterback and ones that have a nose for the ball. Though a restricted free agent, Michael Boley is my number one choice. Actually Dansby would be but Arizona will not let him leave... no way no how.

At corner, Marcus Trufant... the guy we most Saints fans thought we were going to draft years ago. Here's our chance... we have the cap room to steal him away from the Seahawks. He would make a great option opposite Mike. As much as I do like Asante, I really do, he's going to command too much money. I've said this before that I think being in New England's scheme and playing outdoors in that environment helps him also. If we make a run for him great, I'd love to have him... but I probably would target Trufant first. This year my Rod Hood is Drayton Florence.

At safety, if the organization feels we need to make a move here, my pick is Gibril Wilson. He would make a great starting safety for any team in this league. I still have faith in both Bullock and Harper, but I can understand if the team's patience in them is wearing down.

At DT/DE, if we don't extend Will Smith, the obvious choice to replace him is Jared Allen. As much as I'm a Charles Grant fan, I kind of wish now we didn't re-sign him. Having Allen opposite Smith would give us that much needed pass rush. Oh well... hopefully Charles loses some weight and become a force again. Some DT's to consider are Damione Lewis and Randy Starks. Former first round bust Lewis has resurrected his career in Carolina and I think he would be a solid signing. Starks is having a down year but he's a solid tackle... and still very young. We need to get younger, stronger, and faster... these two guys fit the bill.

As far as the draft is concerned, BPA is all I have to say. Whether it's a corner, WR, LB, DT, OL, whatever... take whoever is rated highest on our board. As far as specific players I would like to have, Quentin Groves is a favorite of mines. Dan Connor is as solid as they come and some already know how much I like this guy... been on him since the beginning of last year. Cason/Jenkins are two guys at corner I'm sure we all would love to have. Not really enamored with any DT's as of yet, Glen Dorsey is out of our reach, but I'll have a better feel for them as workouts come.
That was 2 or 3 weeks ago and there are some players I'd like to add. Talib CB from Kansas, Corey Williams DT from Green Bay, Sedrick Ellis if he's there at 10, Pat Sim and Dre Moore if we pass on Ellis in the first with our second pick.

We really need to address getting a pass rushing specialist this offseason. We cannot continue to rush 4 guys with Smith only being the effective one. Get an edge speed rusher and move Grant inside on third downs. As I said up there, I think Groves can be that guy.

One more thing if we take a kicker in the draft, that guys needs to be Brandon Coutu. This kid has one hell of a leg. 60 yarders for this kid would be a cake walk.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

Re: Your the Saints GM, what would you do this off-season???

I think what we do in the draft will depend on free agency.

a - If we sign a playmaking linebacker (Briggs) we should look at DBs or maybe sedrick ellis if he falls at #10.
b- If we sign a playmaking DB (Samuel, Trufant) we should look at possibly trading out of the 10 pick.

I feel that the value we have with the number 41 pick will be huge. #10 is an awkward position this year considering our needs. There will be more LBs, DTs, or DBs worth more at 41 than at 10. I would not feel bad about trading out of the 10 to later in the 1st round if the offer is right.

Extend Colston, Smith.

Faneca would be nice but expensive if we want to extend colston and smith.

Re: Your the Saints GM, what would you do this off-season???

1. Sign Samuel and Gay at all cost and yes that means even giving up some draft picks for next year, not this draft. Thomas becomes a coach. We also need to sign a mid-level FA to replace Bellamy.

2. Sign a quality DT FA like Simon or Haynesworth if possible and yes that means even giving up a draft pick next year, not this year. Re-sign Wynn and Young and Give Smith his long term deal.

3. Sign Daunte Culpepper to back up Drew. Rocket arm and can play well in spurts and knows he's a backup. Cut Martin.

4. Re-sign Patten and Henderson. Moore and Meachem will be big next year. We may want to extend Colston now to show some good faith.

5. Pound Deuce until the wheels fall off. Keep PT as his backup along with Stecker, Karneyand Branch. Bush will be punt returner, kickoff returner, wide receiver, running back, etc., The Matrix so to speak.

6. Re-sign Johnson and Miller, we also have Ghent.

7. Maybe a replacement for Nesbit or we could keep him, either way it's OK.

8. Re-sign Simoneau. If all of the other defensive pieces fall into place the linebackers will be much improved.

9. Cut Mare and Gramatica.

The Draft:

1st Round
Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas

2nd Round
Dre Moore, DT, Maryland

3rd Round
Beau Bell, ILB, UNLV

4th Round
David Vobaro, OLB, Idaho

5th Round
Andy Studebaker, OLB, Wheaton

6th Round
Alexis Serna, Kicker, Oregon State

7th Round
Terrell Vinson, CB Purdue

Re: Your the Saints GM, what would you do this off-season???

Very good question... There are lots of areas to address. The thing I would put at the priority list is getting Gary Gibbs the players he needs to get him back into coaching his 3-4 defensive scheme. I would put my main focus on that first. To make this happen, it's going to be a handful of so called second tier guys in free agency. There is really no such thing as prime free agents anymore, thanks to teams finally learning how to manage the salary cap.

The second move is getting more help through the draft. Kenny Phillips should be a very nice start. More than that, the focus should be on what players can make a difference on defense. This upcoming draft should absolutely have no offensive players involved. Should be seven picks, all defense. More specifically, players who could excel in the 3-4 scheme.

On offense, basically the core is still together and that should be fine. A backup QB is needed, I would go the veteran route. Maybe a guy like McCown from Oakland could be it. Resigning Martin would not be the worse idea in the world, although I think an upgrade is needed. As for WR it's time to get Colston signed to an extended contract, and let Meachum hit the field. As a GM I will probably let Henderson and Copper walk, unless they are talking moderate contract terms.

As for a kicker, no need to worry. As a GM I would be OK with Gramatica and Mare battling it out, and maybe bring in a free agent who wasn't drafted. Let the best man win.

One last spot to think about is the RB position. As a GM I am totally happy right now with Bush, Thomas, and Karney. What I would do a little different is bring in another fullback. I would like to see 2 FB and 3 RB. Karney could be lethal as a spot duty RB with another FB leading the way. There should be a lot of interest in bringing in Michael Turner and as a GM I am going to try my best to get him in a Saints uniform. As far as Deuce goes, I am pulling for him and hope he makes the team, but as a GM I am not counting on it.
