The Saints are roughly $25 million to $30 million under the salary cap, with most of their key players already under contract through next season and beyond. Six starters are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in March -- center Jeff Faine, guard Jamar Nesbit, receiver David Patten, tight end Eric Johnson, defensive tackle Brian Young and linebacker Mark Simoneau.

The team will also look into the possibility of signing defensive end Will Smith, receiver Marques Colston and guard Jahri Evans to long-term contract extensions. All three players are set to become either unrestricted or restricted free agents next year.
