Return man needed? (another Devin Hester is out there)

We need a special teams game breaker.I was Looking at the stats and did not realize how bad we were in that area....field position is everything! The best man for the job is Kevin Robinson from utah state. He is the next Devin Hester, bank on it!

I am not saying this guy couldn't be a great return man, but I do not see him being another Devin Hester. Hester has runs a 40 around the 4.35 range, and Robinson is about a 4.5 type of guy.

Devin Hester is bordering on being a hall of famer after the last two years. It's a bit fruitless to look for the same kind of guy. We might find another Micheal Lewis or something comparable, which would be more than serviceable. But Devin Hester is a unique player in this league.

A-FREAKIN'-MEN!

Yes I understand he was a practice squad guy in Cincy. However, I feel getting back to Louisiana will rejuvenate him. Getting some red beans and rice in your system can work wonders! I am not just talking intestinal.

He's obviously never going to be a 25-30 carry back, therefore he needs to get his butt back there and help this team on special teams. Payton is always preaching that he wants many of his players to play special teams so that we can be a deeper team. Well, Bush needs to step it up and contribute in other ways.

Unfortunately, side to side stutter stepping won't get you far in the return game either... and it won't matter who is back there unless we're blocking. Our returns last year were weak for the most part. Not a TD since Bush against Tampa. Wizzeak!! x(

@ Missle and Sapper: You two are the biggest homers ever. I just wanted to get that off my chest.

About the return man: Leodis McKelvin is the real deal. First Team AA for returns, led the nation in return yards and he's got shut-down man-to-man corner back potential.

He is from Troy, though. I hope that's not too small of a school.

... does he come with the same Bear blocking scheme and execution that Hester benefits from?

Great return guys find openings when it seems there are none. It takes a special talent to be a great one....maybe thats why they call it SPECIAL TEAMS. Kevin Robinson has that special talent.

What the heck is a homer?

Faith in the team has nothing to do with the fact that I am not overly excited about how this team is performing. I just don't understand that because Caoch P says "Yeah, we have a problem on defense and we are going to look at making it better", what? That was the same problem we had last year, and nothing was fixed, it was made worse. Now, instead of going after a proven defensive coach we hire a failed HC to help the D-line. Yes, everyone has to start somewhere, but do you really go after the guy that was chased out of his last job????

I am sorry to be sooooo negative guys, but how many stupid mistakes does it take for the Front Office to stand up and say, "HEY, let's stop bringing in second rate talent into this organization and really make this team great." It just seems this team get's the players noboby else wants, and I'm tired of it.

No one on this site can say they are happy with the way things are and have gone for this team. It's depressing guys.

I still want to know what a "Homer" is.

A "homer" is someone who is blinded by their bias towards their favorite team. In this case LSU. I was alluding to the comments about Skylar Green, and Missle having two guys from LSU in his mock - primarily, Steltz going as the 40th player taken.

It didn't have anything to do with Coach O or the Saints Defensive woes.

Since you mentioned coach O: he was a failed HC, sure, but so was Cutcliffe and he's a pretty good offensive coordinator. Coach O has shown that he has an eye for talent and has a pretty damn good record of coaching up D-linemen. I figure Payton needs some help finding good defensive talent. I dont' see where his record as an HC has any meaningful impact on his ability to do that.

Funny, if OSU had won and and Jenkins and Lauranitis went pro, you'd better happy as pie if we drafted either one. Yet, we mention drafting some kids that went to LSU and we're just "homers". Yeah, funny how NE drafts a ton of LSU players (Green, Faulk, Gay, Hill (sadly he died) and they are geniuses! Get over yourself guy. We'd be lucky to have such high character, high output players as Steltz, Highsmith and Hester. Stelz a consensus All American, Highsmith the best LB at LSU and Hester a thousand yard gainer and the MAIN reason LSU won a NC. Homer indeed.

^^^^^That's being a homer.

I'm sure Skyler Green is happy to be a Saint. I think it was a good idea to bring him here. We'll see.

You're right WhoDat, LSU players suck and why waste your time on them? Let's just let PERENNIAL SB contender NE grab them all up and make the SB every other year. Last I checked, smart guy, Steltz was an ALL AMERICAN! I guess we can give a LB from Tennessee a chance with our last pick in the 7th round, but not a guy from LSU, who by the way, plays a position of need. You sir, are a moron!

Easy buddy. There's no need for name calling.

At what point did I say that LSU players suck?

What does Marvin Mitchell have to do with spending a 2nd round pick on a SS with 4th round talent just because you unilaterally decided that Roman Harper needs to be replaced after 20 games?

Calm down now, calm down.

Yes, I will fall into the Homer catagory. I would love to see the Saints LSU and Southern Miss heavy. Is is because I love both teams and blah, blah, blah.

Nothing is personal around here. I didn't take any offence to what whodat205 said. We are USM brothers.

Back to Coach O, I will say it again, I hope I'm wrong about him and I catch alot crap next year. I just want what is best for this team. That's all, even if it means drafting all the LSU players. :-D

Hey, I'm a Homer all the way for USM and the entire SEC.

Imagine if we had Boley and AT...we picked Adrian McPherson 8 spots before Boley and Bulger was picked 18 spots before AT. That pick double-sucks.

Anyway, about the return men. Take a serious look at McKelvin. His stock is on the rise, and he could break the top 15. He's a good m2m corner with a ton of speen, he's probably the best return man in the draft to boot. He's worth consideration at 10 depending on his combine.

As for a back-up QB, I bet Jeremy Young will be there in the 6th...

LOL! I think still be in the 1,000,003 round. Waiting.

I know I shouldn't be that way.

I still couldn't believe they didn't draft Adalius, I was heart broken. :-(

McKELVIN is a good one no doubt.....I think both he and ROBINSON will fly under the radar a bit on draft day and be an absolute steal for some lucky team.

Hey saintsmissile....in case you have not noticed....Payton is going all offense all the time with just a sprinkle of defensive nobodys just to make it look like he gives a hoot.
