SEVERAL TEAMS INTERESTED IN SHEPPARD by Michael David Smith

It's only been 24 hours since the Philadelphia Eagles signed cornerback Asante Samuel, but they're already hearing from teams interested in trading for the cornerback Samuel replaced in the starting lineup.

A league source tells PFT that several teams are showing preliminary interest in trading for cornerback Lito Sheppard. Those teams include the Texans, :phat: Saints :phat:, Buccaneers, Browns, Rams and Jets.

A team can never have too many good cornerbacks, and the Eagles could choose to keep Sheppard, especially if they move right cornerback Sheldon Brown to safety. But given how much interest there is in Sheppard, it seems more likely that he'll be shipped elsewhere.

i wonder what they are gonna want in return...

Re: Lito Sheppard

I'm guessing since they don't have to move him and that CB's are in demand that they'll want high draft picks (yes more than one) in this and next years drafts. And perhaps Drew's first born...
They really have nothing to lose by asking for the moon and stars now that they've upgraded big time in the secondary.

One can only hope Devery Henderson now that he has signed a one year contract with the Saints! :)

If Loomis mans up and pulls off a trade for Sheppard, this off-season is officially a winner.

Re: Lito Sheppard

Agreed... getting Sheppard would make my off season. Well that and a good draft.

Yep. And if Dorsey falls to #10 I might just die of a heart attack from the excitement right then and there. LOL

Re: Lito Sheppard

I would say Rivers(draft) and Sheppard, this would be the most anticipated year ever on both sides of the ball. We would finally have the playmaking defense that would make us legit contenders.

Re: Lito Sheppard

What would you give up for him?

Henderson and a 2nd? Seems like they always need recievers. We always need Cb.

winmill1 03-02-2008 06:11 PM

Re: Lito Sheppard

Maybe their was a deal behind the scenes that if the Saints stop bidding on Samuel, that they would deal us Sheppard. That would make me feel better about losing Samuel.

Re: Lito Sheppard

Yes Henderson and a 2nd without a doubt!!!!

Re: Lito Sheppard

That would make my offseason if we swung a trade for Sheppard. We could use Sheppard and Young/Gay on the other side until MM gets healthy.

By the way, any word on how he's doing?

I hear Mike Mckenzie won't be ready to play until week 6.

Balls.

Re: Lito Sheppard

I would imagine that Sheppard's services will be demand. I've seen the Texans, Hawks & a few others are still in the market for CB help. Do we think its worth losing one or more draft picks for him? Given his relative young age and skills I'd give up some picks to land him.

Re: Lito Sheppard

Isn't Lito known for being injury-plagued??

papz 03-03-2008 03:28 PM

Re: Lito Sheppard

For the past 3 seasons yes... but if he could be had for a 3rd or 4th rounder, he could be well worth the risk.

CheramieIII 03-03-2008 05:41 PM

Re: Lito Sheppard

I agree P, give them our 3rd rounder and then draft Rivers (OLB) in the 1st and Moore or Laws (DT) in the 2nd. A guard in the 5th, a TE in the 6th and a QB in the 7th.

I know I was complaining yesterday but I apologize and it won't happen again, NOT!

What's the latest news? Landing Sheppard and Rivers would set this defense up nicely for '08.

word is the eagles are tryin to trade sheppard for roy williams in detroit

Well that makes sense for both the Lions and Eagles...thanks for the update!

Re: Lito Sheppard

Roy Williams is still recovering from his injury though. I really don't care what they do with Lito. I am excited to see the saints defense in general improve.. not just corners.

sounds great but if we are planning on trading down id rather wait n see if one of the top guys falls to us at 10 before making the move...

dulplay 03-08-2008 08:24 PM

Re: Lito Sheppard

I agree with Pak... if our guy is gone, I'm all for trading down for additional picks or players. We've made some deals with Philly on draft day before so I'm optimistic about Lito maybe coming here if he's in Philly on the day of the draft that is.

Re: Lito Sheppard

I just heard on NFL radio, if they can work out a new contract with Fitzgerald, It will be Reggie Brown and Sheppard to the Cardinals for Fitzgerald.
