The Original Dome Patrol

YouTube - The incomparable Dome Patrol

The music is a little cheesy but man that Saints defense knew how to get after the quarterback and whoever was unfortunate enough to touch the ball....one word comes to mind watching this clip...SWARM!!!

Here's to 2008 in hopes of a re-birth of the DOME PATROL!

Good find. It's been so long since I've seen video of the Dome Patrol that I almost forgot how freakin' dominating they were. However, there is no way that this defense will hold a candle to the Dome Patrol. Nothing will.

I think Fujita/Vilma/Rivers or whoever we draft at LB is about as close at we'll get, and I'll take it.

You still wilks and jumpy up the middle to make it all work.

The NFl will never come close to such a group again. Jackson looks like such a bad a** with that giant neckroll.

My one word is PAIN. Vaughn Johnson...fuggedaboutit. Hardest hitting nasty streak linebacker that ever played bar none. Now he was a run stopper.

How did he recover from his leg? I've always wondered that.

Those were great times. That defense was just dominating. This actually brings back some bad memories; only if Carl Smith could have gotten anything from the offense, the Saints would have won a couple of Super Bowls. Decent QB, good RB's, good line, good WR's, yet Carl couldn't find the right formula. Freaking pathetic to waste so much talent...

i can't remember the last time i saw that many defenders sense where the play was going immediately and all get to the ball carrier, it happened on a regular basis back then....and like i said, i can't remember the last time i saw that from this team.

I don't know if any of you remember it....do you remember Swilling, Mills, Jackson and Johnson on the front of Sports Illustrated in cartoonish type print? They were drawn and made to look like zombies! The title on the cover said "4-D". Man those were the days of defense.

Re: The Original Dome Patrol

What made that Defense so good was their attitude. That defense went out on every play and tried to tear teams apart. An attitude like that on this team would be awesome. They just wanted to destroy their opponents.

Heres to hoping that Vilma will be a stud and Morgan can come back by some miracle. We already have two good ends and a tough DT. Man I would like to see that type of aggressiveness on a defense again.
