the more important draft selection: 2nd round

I feel like we're discussing the 10th overall pick WAY too much on this board. lets move on from there guys. we'll select Rivers, DRC, McKelving, Ellis or Dorsey with this pick. possibly Mendenhall but I think most of us generally agree that pick is a long shot.

the more important thing to discuss is who will be selected with the 40th/41st (I forgot which) overall pick in this thing. it's wide open. LB, DT, CB, even offensive players are all possibilities.

i agree second round will be just as important as first round.

i say DT Dre Moore!

if they go offense they could go Fred Davis but I sure hope not!

Re: the more important draft selection: 2nd round

None of those guys will be available...

Pat Sims - Auburn (if we go CB at 10)
Curtis Lofton - Oklahoma (what a steal this LB would be at # 40 !!!)
Jory Nelson - K State (if we let Payton call it) ((if not we get Andre Caldwell - Florida in the third))

Is there a line on the draft? 'Cause I'm ready to lay some $$$ down.

Dustin Keller (6'2", 245, 4.599), TE from Purdue. Killed the combine, killed his pro day.

DT-Trevor laws-Notre Dame in the second......and I wouldnt be so sure about the 1st rd pick, I bet no one thought we would take Meachem last year.

It's funny you mention that. Not three minutes before the Saints made their pick for Meachem last year, I sent a text to a buddy of mine. It read "Who do you think? Olsen or Meacham?" He replied back with "Meachem". I said "That's what I think, too".

What exactly is this guy going to do over the 6 TE we already have on staff?

TE isn't a position of need for the Saints. We resigned both or top two FA TEs.

The Saints still really need another LB, DT, and CB. Even presuming that we fill one of these positions with the #10 pick, we really need to fill another at #40.

Our defense isn't good enough to play the BPA game this draft. Maybe next year.

Re: the more important draft selection: 2nd round

Cason would be sweet. but I think the chance of conner falling to us is greater than him. Yep I like him. He is the most under rated CB in the draft is for some reason flying way under the radar. A tree top Flyer.

TE in round 2? trade way back then I could see it. He is like the CBs in that you have to ask why he played the way he did in 2007 and then turned in a great combine.

Re: the more important draft selection: 2nd round

If we draft a CB in the 1st (Ellis and Dorsey gone) which I think we will, then we will draft either Moore or Laws in the 2nd. I think we'll see alot of defense out of this draft.

But I do have one thought; the Saints maybe thinking Deuce is done and they may draft Mendenhall in the 1st.

If we take CB in round one I love Xavier Adibi. If we take Rivers in round one I say Laws or Cason and dont be surprise if Kenny Phillips is still on the board in round two.

Gleason never actually played safety, and I don't really think he was ever a legitimate option. He couldn't even warrant some playing time playing behind these "phenomenal" safeties:
Roman Harper (who will be better 2 years removed from ACL surgery)
Jay Bellamy
Josh Bullocks
and my personal favorite
Tebucky!

I even think we brought Bellamy back after he got cut rather than letting Gleason play safety. Gleason was always a special teamer, and only a safety because he's required to belisted at some position. He might as well have been listed at DT. I loved Gleason, but he obviously couldn't play safety.

I've wanted Dre Moore in the second since day one, but neither he nor Fred Davis will be there guys. They have solidified themselves as 1st rounders. Now....if Dajuan Morgan (FS-NC State) is there....you gotta' take him. This guy is gonna' be a really good safety.
