If We Get A Corner...
Is it just me or is this a very lackluster group of CBs? I mean when I look at the top rated guys none of them really stand out. My question to ya'll is this, do you see any of the top corners in this year's draft becoming a pro bowl lock down CB? When I say the top corners I'm talking about M. Jenkins, DRC, A. Talib, and L. McKelvin. Who is the best of this bunch and who would you most like to see in black and gold?

Re: If We Get A Corner...
I think it is a very deep draft of corners.. however only one really stands out to me and just feels right.. that is DRC. I actually LOVE the fact he comes from a small school.. unlike most that bash him for it.

Re: If We Get A Corner...
Now thats a hard pick for this years draft. To be honest with you not one of these guys deserve to be in the top 15. Look at last years draft and not one of them would have challenged for the #2 spot in the CB rankings. #3 yes but top 2? no. Lets face facts this class is basically weak in round 1. From round 2 on I like this class alot. The true postion of strength is OT. Thats why I agree with Boba that CB may not be the saints pick at 10. If I had to pick just one I am going with Carson from Arizona. He was the #3 CB in last year draft but went back to school. He is a in your face jamming style CB. The best in the draft at this art form. That is the key to playing out on the island. you can not let the WR get a jump into thier route. What hurts him is the 4.45 speed.

Re: If We Get A Corner...
Kansas CB Aqib Talib ran a 4.48 forty at his Pro Day on Tuesday.
It's a smidge slower than his 4.44 from the Combine, not that it matters much. Talib is in good position to be a first-round pick in April. The underclassman has shown better than expected athleticism this offseason. Fantasy Football - news, projections, rankings, draft guide - Rotoworld.com |

Re: If We Get A Corner...
I'm fine with either McKelvin or Jenkins at 10... and I think they're both legitimate top 15 picks. I like DRC a lot also, just not at 10... but the only reason why is because of the competition he faced. He's the better cover corner out of the three imo.

Re: If We Get A Corner...
I'd love to see Talib as a FS. He may not have the prime speed at CB, but this guy is always around the ball!

Re: If We Get A Corner...
There is so much hype right now about DRC and I understand why but I have some doubts. What's the story on this guy? He's a great athlete but why was he at a small school? Grades? Troubled youth? Headcase? I mean how many people can say with a straight face that this guy is the real deal when almost nobody had heard of him before the senior bowl? When it comes to coreners I have bought into the hype too many times to get fooled again. Here are a few CBs that some of us Saints fans were begging for in years past, Ahmad Carroll, Tye Hill, Andre Woolfolk, Phillip Buchanon, Mike Rumph. Remember these guys? Looking back, maybe the FO knew more than we thought they did. I just think that if a CB is to be selected in the top 10 he should be head and shoulders above a CB taken in the 20s. None of these CBs seem like that guy to me.

Re: If We Get A Corner...
ACtually the two drafts books I have, have the Cb position rated as a B or higher, I think it is a deep class. Jenkinks,McKelvin, and DRC would be fine. Talib as a FS, maybe, he looked terrible in the "flip your hips" drill at the combine which unlike the 40 tells a lot about a db.(see Mike McKenzie 4.58 40yd dash)

Re: If We Get A Corner...
I agree the CB class is deep it just lacks a headliner. I don't see a bonafide top 5 or even top 10 guy.

Re: If We Get A Corner...
Thanks saintsmissle, I didn't know that about DRC. That could explain why such a great athlete ended up at a small school. Does anybody have a link for any DRC video or other info that would help me research this kid?

Re: If We Get A Corner...
DRC is going to be a stud. But I think we take Tracy Porter in the second round.
Porter was on the NFL Radio Sirius Blitz this afternoon. He said the SAINTS talk to him. |

Re: If We Get A Corner...
Yeah pakowitz I read that earlier today on draftcountdown. The more research I do on this guy the more I like him. It seems like he has as much raw potential as any player in recent history. Yeah, he didn't play until his senior year but you can look at that a couple of different ways. The optimist will say that since he hasn't played alot ball he'll be like a blank canvas. He hasn't had time to develop alot of bad habits that come from poor coaching. He will be a DB coach's dream project player. Right now he has the raw tools to be a good player but with the right coaching he could be a great player.
The pessimist on the other hand will ask how long will it take a player who has such limited experience to develop into a starter who can be relied on play to play and game to game. A freakish athlete can get by on talent alone in high school and college but in the NFL it's not that easy. To be a consistent NFL starter a player needs to be complete. He needs to be able to understand the game and his team's specific system. He needs instincts to go along with athletisism. Just look at Levar Arrington's career. When he was at Penn State that guy was a super freak. He might have been the most rediculous athlete I've ever seen at that level (see the Levar Leaps 1 & 2) and he was drafted in the top 3 because of that raw athletisism and playmaking ability. You basically have to be superman to be drafted that high as a linebacker and he was...in college. While he was with the Redskins he was a solid but highly overrated player. He made alot of highlight reel plays that got fans excited but what went unnoticed is how many times he was freelancing and blowing assignments. Anybody remember Moran Norris? That guy put up some insane workout numbers but didn't pan out. The same year we drafted Norris we drafted Sedrick Hodge also. He had crazy numbers too but he never played up to those numbers. I just can't see the FO spending the 10th pick of the draft on a guy so raw. He's the definition of a boom or bust player and it would take some huge onions to go up and get him there. Maybe we could trade down, pick up another couple of picks and then get him a little later. At least then if he busted instead of boomed we might get lucky on a player we drafted with the extra picks. |
Re: If We Get A Corner...
Man DRC would be awesome in a saints uni.....wouldnt mind tracy porter either.
