Mike Jenkins

Came across some highlight film on Jenkins...the kickoff return and the hit are the two things that stood out to me the most...apparently he was offered scholarships from Nebraska, LSU, Auburn and USF...he chose USF because they were up and coming versus the other established big time colleges...his coach referred to him as a lock-down corner...I don't think we can go wrong taking this guy at 10...just my thoughts...enjoy the video

Is it me, or did they show the same interception about 5-6 times.

Re: Mike Jenkins

I don't need to see the video. I like him over the other corners bc of his physical style of play. He's my choice at #10.

He's greater with instant replay.

Re: Mike Jenkins

... you don't choose USF over LSU or Auburn (Nebraska I can see because they've stunk the past few years) because USF is "up and coming". That's crap. LSU has USF beaten in sports, national exposure, academics, and just about everything other aspect , other than USF being closer to the beach than LSU. That tells me that either he was afraid of t level of competition, or he got more perks to go to USF.

The "highlight" video , is not much of a highlight video at all, showing the same play 3-4 times, and he did not look fast on the KR, more like the other team couldn't tackle my grandmother.

Nope, 10 spot belongs to Rivers or Connor.

Re: Mike Jenkins

Jenkins is a good prospect, but I don't know how long til he is ready to contribute - he is a pretty raw prospect. Also, last season, he profited from one of the best pass rushes in the country with George Selvie giving QBs very little time to throw. All said, I still wouldn't mind him at 10.

Re: Mike Jenkins

Merces...

I disagree with you on Jenkins speed...if that is not fast/quick...then I don't know what is...and btw thanks for breaking down Jenkins reasons for going to USF...Did you see he is from Bradenton, FL...i guess playing near family and friends never crossed his mind...I know this is a friendly forum but you shouldn't just jump to conclusions and throw spears without considering all of a player's potential reasons for selecting one school over another...let's be fair...he could become a Saint for all we know

The point of the video was to simply make light of some of his skills IF RIVERS IS TAKEN PRIOR TO 10...I guess I should have been more detailed but I didn't think someone would mistaken me for selecting jenkins over rivers...never...I believe without a doubt that Rivers is the pick at 10...however if he is gone by 10 I do not see your arguement for connors at 10...a Cornerback will be selected before connors...now if the Saints trade down...connors makes sense but 10 is reaching IMO

look...it's all about spirited conversation...the bottom line is we are all saints fans and want to see them get back to the playoffs and thus the superbowl...I just want the pick to be of good value and one that makes sense from a defensive standpoint

Re: Mike Jenkins

If you think we are going CB with the 10th pick, I think you are fooling yourself. Its not going to be a CB.

gptsaintsfan 03-13-2008 01:07 PM

Re: Mike Jenkins

Okay...so if Rivers, Ellis, and Dorsey are off the board by #10...who do you think the saints will take that isn't a CB?

Euphoria...I would like to see your response?

Euphoria 03-13-2008 03:16 PM

Re: Mike Jenkins

Kentwan Balmer, DT
Jonathan Steward, RB
Malcolm Kelly, WR
Brohm, QB
Take your pick of OL that are available.

With the bodies and money invested in that secondary now, it makes no sense to draft a DB. You have to address the real problem with the D and that was getting a pass rush. With other problem areas on this team you can't pass up the other possibilities.

You find QB and WR more of an area of need than CB?

Weird. I must have misread TR's post, because this response implies it was an attack of some kind. From what I read, it looked a pretty neutral assessment of a player.

I would hope everyone would agree that (among the many desirable qualities) you want in a football player on your team:

driven - wants to play professional football above all things and willing to do whatever it takes to get there

motivated - a self starter that seeks out the best opportunities and puts himself in a position to take advantage

strong - comfortable under the spotlight and at ease under pressure

I can't really think of a good reason to pick USF over over LSU (or Auburn for that matter) if your overriding goal in life is to play in the NFL. I don't know why the guy did it but it seems an odd choice, if the information about his potential scholarships is accurate.

Re: Mike Jenkins

I'll give it to you Euphoria...you got some brass!

But no one in this forum or analysts conducting on-line mock drafts have the saints taking any of those guys with pick 10...you must have a direct line to the front office...thanks for the input

Re: Mike Jenkins

Don't read too much in Jenkins' choice of schools. Southern Miss just signed a 5*. Playing time makes a difference. McNair pick Alcorn over some big time schools because they wanted him to convert.

I still like Leodis the best.

Euph makes a good point. We've got a lot of $$ tied up in the CB position. They may very well address the position later in the draft where there are some very good picks.

Re: Mike Jenkins

When it comes to the draft...I will bet that Rivers is our guy if he doesn't get drafted by Cincy...however..the flood gates open if he's gone because everyone and I mean everyone has a different opinion on who we should take as our second option...My hope is that Rivers is at 10...if not...I think our pick will be scrutinized all year by the fans because no one can come to a consensus on "the man" to take...i wish things would become clearer in the next 6 weeks leading up to draft day so there is no doubt who 10 will be.

Re: Mike Jenkins

I like Leodis McKelvin the best of all the corners. Besides....growing up with a name like "Leodis", you know he plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Euphoria 03-13-2008 04:32 PM

Re: Mike Jenkins

I believe Rivers to is a good pick as well, but Pats may snag him if they don't snag a DT.

I seriously don't think we can use that pick on a CB with what we have invested so far. There are a lot of areas that we need to concern ourselves with.

rebelsaint 03-13-2008 04:35 PM

Re: Mike Jenkins

If the USC LB and DL are not there, they should take either Quinten Groves, Cromartie, and if Mendenhall is still there, I wouldn't be surprised given Deuces long road back. A good strong, power back could free up Bush and others and take a lot of pressure off of the Defense by simply moving the chains.

That isn't what I am saying at all.

What I am saying is that we aren't going to draft a CB at 10.

You don't have to draft on areas of need. You can draft by BPA -(Best Player Available for you rookies). We have to much invested and enough roster spots at that position that it makes it nearly impossible to address that position at this point.

If you want to draft based on area of need than that would be PASS RUSH! We need a blitz. PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE... force the other team to make mistakes. You let the QB sit in the pocket he'll find someone one open eventually.

whoa!
..hold on there...
I'm not "jumping to conclusions" nor "throwing spears".You stated that he chose USF because USF was "up and coming" rather than going to LSU or Auburn. USF can be accused of many things, but never of being "up and coming" football powerhouse. The SEC is the biggest stage in college football. If you ball and you get a chance to play in the biggest stage in college football with 2 solid programs, you are telling me you are going to forgo the better academic institution (LSU) and the biggest stage in college football to stay close to mommy and your buds and attend a school like USF?
To me, that doesn't sound right.

.. and in relation to Central Florida, is not like Louisiana or Alabama are in the Pacific North West. They're a bus ride away.

He better hope he gets drafted by the Bucs or the Dolphins.. Jacksonville would be too far...

Mercedes...i'm just trying to add to the forum and provide some insight into Jenkins (constructively)...your idea is to bash the kid...for all you know the Saints may select him...i realize however that some of us will like him and some won't...I merely offered his selection as a backup to us not getting Rivers...thank you...your opinion of Jenkins has been heard loud and clear

Re: Mike Jenkins

actually jenkins didnt choose USF over Florida or LSU.. if you look at his recruiting page on rivals.com it shows a few top schools but it doesnt even say if they offered him a scholarship.. and considering he was the 45th ranked CB in the nation, only a 3 star prospect.. im sure those schools were looking at higher ranked prospects
