Deuce rumor and restructure (merged)

According to a poster on another Saints site he supposedly has inside info that Deuce will no longer be with the team tomorrow..(Since the guy
seems to be a credible poster, I thought others here might want to check it out.If true it would be a end to a great career in NOLA and he would sorely be missed.

Re: Rumor: Deuce MAY be Cut Tomorrow?

I don't believe it. He's due a roster bonus tomorrow. If they were going to cut him, they'd cut him today - not tomorrow.

We'll find out soon enough.

I agree that this would be very sad but his contract pays him top RB money but he is no longer a top RB. Deuce in his prime was worth it but it seems like his best days are behind him now. Maybe we'll keep him and he'll come out and be a beast again and prove me wrong. I hope.

going to be completely honest, I think Saints fans everywhere would rather donate $1,000,000 for his roster bonus than see him get cut.

I agree, the days of a "The Deuce is Loose" are rapidly settling into the sunset. His first 3 seasons or so were very special, The last 3 have been not so special.(There were some great moments in the 2006 season but they were few and far between)

McAllister, Saints delay bonus payment:

The Saints and tailback Deuce McAllister agreed to push back his $1 million roster bonus from March 15 to April 15, giving the team a better chance to gauge his health before making any financial decisions.

McAllister, 29, is recovering from surgery on both of his knees in late September. He expects to be ready for the team's summer minicamp (usually around June 1). But he said he was agreeable to the postponement because it gives him more time to prove he'll "make good on the investment."

"I think honestly if I would have pushed for it, I think I could have gotten it. But in doing that, they probably would have wanted to lower my pay," said McAllister, who is scheduled to receive a salary of $3.6 million this season, in addition to the $1 million roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus.

Of course, the Saints might still ask McAllister to take a pay cut next month. But McAllister will be further along in his rehab, which will put him in a better bargaining position.

"It's pretty much both parties working together," he said. "It's not something they were interested in doing if I was healthy. But at the same time, they want to make sure they're protected."

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis declined to expand on the decision, saying that there is no need to read too much into it and that both sides were in agreement.

4.6 million is not bad.

Looks more and more like we will be picking Deuces replacement in the draft. Can anybody say.... Mendenhall.

IMO it's only a rumor , at least for now because I never heard or read any reports of the "cut"

Re: Rumor: Deuce MAY be Cut Tomorrow?

To me, this sounds a lot like a few years ago when the saints drafted Deuce while Ricky was still on the roster. Replace an aging and often injured RB with a young stud replacement. If you remember back to that year, the saints had MUCH greater needs than RB, but that pick really paid off later on.

Don't get me wrong, I am in no way comparing Ricky and Deuce, but it does sound like a similar situation.

I would like the saints to fix some holes on defense, but I am also a firm believer in drafting the best talent available in the first round and worry about need in later rounds.

If they didn't want him they wouldn't have pushed it back. Nice job front office and good luck Deuce.

Not too throw too much man-love at Deuce, but WHAT A SAINT! Instead of throwing a tantrum about the front office playing Missouri (show me) with his health, instead he says, "OK, I'll show you"

No negative press. No sideways comments. Pure class. The Saints are bigger than one player, but if this front office plays him dirty after this I have to think long and hard about it.... I don't root for the bad guys. Ever.

My gut says he will be a Saint, no facts, just my gut.

Just what I was thinking. Couldn't have said it better myself.

We're all praying for Deuce's return. The guy is a class act and we all love him. He's in the top 5 all time Saints and this certainly secures his place. If he can return to form, wow super.

Does anybody know the exact injury he sustained and usually how long it takes to recover. My personal feeling on his recovery is that the mind usually heals long before the injury. In any case, if the Saint give Deuce the signing bonus, we won't take a running back at #1, but if we don't give him the bonus, it is almost a certainty.

I think he slipped on a banana peel looking at the Saints cheerleaders ... so pulled groin, and a twinged ligament. Not positive though!

I know we are all pulling for Deuce to come back strong next year. I just pray he can take a full season beating until we reach the superbowl. Yes I'm very optimistic :)
