Re: brunell signs with saints
I like it. I also see that Trent Dilfer was released today - was due a half a mil signing bonus, cut him before they had to pay. I'm happy though. I feel more comfortable with either of these guys over Martin.

Re: brunell signs with saints
I don't think it matters who our backup is...if Brees gets hurt we are in trouble (knock on wood).
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
I like the pick and think that Brunell can run our offense for a game or two if Brees goes down.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3291948 can't we find someone younger? Testaverde, George, Bledsoe, Jurgensen? |
Re: brunell signs with saints
I like the signing. He'll make a good backup and someone who can help develop Palko into at least formidable backup.
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
Man, this guy was great in his day; but he couldn't make some of the throws the last time I watch his with the Redskins
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
well he is a lefty if i remember correctly,so the blind side changes....hmmmmm?
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
I can live with it. He was very good in his day
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
Of the bench? hell ya Mark still can put together two or three good games.
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
Great pick up ... we all know he can hit the side of a bus! ... Unlike some of our former QB's!
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
I love it! I agree that he should be able to run the offense for a few games if Brees happens to go down. Palko could be the one to benefit most, this should greatly enhance his development.
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
Yeah I dont like the signing other than the benefit Palko might receive. Brunell is done, but hes a lefty and that can give Palko some pointers. I hope so anyway.

BITE YOUR TONGUE!!!! You should never even think about a contingency plan if Brees goes down. Albeit I like the idea of Brunell over Martin, I shudder to think what would happen if Brees doesn't play. |

Re: brunell signs with saints
I like this signing in theory. I will reserve full judgement until after camp and pre-season performances. Warmer and fuzzier though. Martin frightened me.
|
Re: brunell signs with saints
I like this signing considering what was out there. Brunell doesn't have much if anything left in the tank but he could roll out of bed and be better than Martin. Hopefully Brunell won't have to step in but if he does I think he's got just enough left to be decent caretaker for a few starts. He always had nice touch on the short to intermediate routes but his long balls are a horror show at this point in his career.

they are dancing in the streets here in DC

Re: brunell signs with saints
lol. its not like Brunell was the only thing wrong with the Skins, they just like to blame the QB like everyone else. the Skins just suck.
great pickup imo. this is a guy I wouldn't mind seeing stepping into the starting role for a few drives if Brees were to get messed up a little bit and needed to go to the sideline to get taped up or something. |
Re: brunell signs with saints
Upgrade at back-up QB. Good move.

Re: brunell signs with saints
Didn't we sign Trent Green?

Re: Saints Sign Veteran QB Brunell
Question why not someone young like a Tim Hasselbeck. I wonder what the KNOCK on him is.

Re: Saints Sign Veteran QB Brunell
I was very happy to hear about this pick up. Is Mark a starter...no. However, he is a very good backup. I feel 100 times better with him backing Drew up.

Re: Saints Sign Veteran QB Brunell
I love this signing. We needed a good backup in case Brees goes down...even if it is just for a game or two. Brunell is experienced and can help settle Drew and point out a few sideline observations that might come in to play for the next series. Brunell can step right in and dink and dunk just as effectively as Brees. One down side - opposite ball spin might affect some of the less gifted clutchers.
