That's the year Ditka led the Saints to a 3-13 record. We had the 29th ranked offense in the league and the 28th ranked defense in the league. Now, I'm no genius here but, to me, it would seem like it would take a while to turn around a franchise as bad as this one. Haslett led the saints to the playoffs the very next year and while the 2 following years have ended in disappointment, it's not like we have been near the bottom of the league either. Has the coaching staff made mistakes? YES!! Are there better coaches? YES!! No matter what anyone's opinion about the coaching staff might be, the fact is that they took a team that was no better or maybe even worse than an expanision team, that had given up all of it's draft picks in the Ricky Williams trade and brought a winning team to New Orleans. Some fans continually moan and groan over what terrible coaching the Saints have and I'll be the first one to admit that there have been mistakes made, but, it really annoys me that we have as good a team as what we do, and a real chance to go to the super bowl this year if the defense has improved, and all I hear is how bad the coaching staff has done. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nor1999.htm |
