IYHO, what is the tangible evidence Meachem can be the #2 WR? What will he be able to show/demostrate/prove he is capable of taking the #2 from Patten?

Personally, I think Meachem has a long way to go to prove he deserves and has earned the #2 position. He certainly did not provide anything in 2007.

In addition, I just don't understand the Henderson resigning. Yes, he spreads the field and has a quick burst, but he drops passes in critical situations.

Try this post again when Meachem finally gets on the field. Until then I don't want to hear this.

Ill have to agree with the others, this is a pointless thread. Meach has done nothing to warrant any kind of praise.

The Saints really need for him to win the number 2 job. The rest of the guys are true backups. We should know more after a couple of preseason games.

he has a lot to prove and has been working his tail off, so I hope it works out for him.

From everything I've read he's been doing and saying all the right things

Seriously? So in your opinion Meachem is neutral. He neither added nor took anything away from the team? I would say being the only 1st round pick not to hit the field took something away from the team last year. Now I'm not talking about his potential, just looking at what has he done for me lately. And that's a whole lot of nothing.

I guess on the positive side, he can only get better...

#2 would be nice but we really need him to develop into a #1. Colston would be suited as a #2. It would allow Colston to be the motion guy more often. Causing all kinds of match up problems.

If Meachem gets going, either he or Colston would present a matchup problem. Can't wait for the pre season games. Meachem has something to prove!

Nobody can deny the kid's athletic talent, because if we went purely by that, drafting him wouldn't have been so controversial/crazy.

However, a lot of these kids just have problems adjusting to the NFL. For some it's not being able to digest the playbook, for some it's not being able to adjust to the speed of the game, and for others it's just a maturity issue. In my opinion, we're lucky it's the latter with Meachem because that's something that can be easily fixed if the player is willing to fix it, and it appears that he's willing to fix it.

I think that Meachem will come out and have a good year in 2008. Yes, I don't have any "evidence" about why I think that, but none of us ever have much evidence for our hunches. I just think that he has the athletic ability, and the only thing he was missing last year was maturity and a healthy knee. He has both now.

I agree to a certain extent. Colston is a stud and Meachem would have to be one hell of a beast to make Colston our #2. I agree that if Meachem does come on strong this year it will allow us to do more things with Colston. We drafted Meachem to be a #1 WR but even if he doesn't supplant Colston his speed will have to be accounted for along with Reggie's and that will leave Colston facing alot more single coverage. And we all know what happens when big number 12 is out there alone with a CB! There are maybe three corners in the league who can handle him one on one and they aren't in the NFC South.
