So you are proving my point... get a pass rush and you win the Divison and in the playoffs? I agree with that whole-heartedly.

I don't just want a playoff contender. I want a Super Bowl contender.

The Minnesota Vikings put up more than 40 points on the defense in the divisional playoffs because the defensive backs couldn't cover Randy Moss. All it takes to tear apart a defense like the one you are asking for is three step drops, an accurate quarterback, and short routes by the wide receivers.

You can easily negate your opponent's pass rush with short drop backs and moving around the snap point on shotgun formations. Then it is up to the quarterback to get rid of the ball quickly and be on the same page with his receiver. The only way a defense can stop the opposing offense at this point is for the defensive backs to properly read what route the wide receiver is about to take and hopefully divert the receiver's path, ruining the timing of the play.

Then there are moments were the defense might not even realize that the offense is about to run a pass play. Case in point, that very playoff game against the Vikings. Let's see if you remember this play.

The Vikings line up in one of their most common running formations, intending to hand the ball off. The Saints defense properly diagnoses the play at first. Culpepper recognizes that the Saints defense is playing run. He then gives a slight hand motion to Moss before he positions himself for the snap. When the ball is snapped, Culpepper quickly throws the ball to Moss for a wide receiver screen. The cornerback covering Moss (good old Alex Molden) misreads what Moss is about to do, and drops back instead of stepping forward. He whiffs on his tackle attempt, and Moss streaks untouched to the end zone. Fat load of good our pass rush did there.

Your defense or argument is Randy Moss??? Randy Moss??? Did he not get beat in the Super Bowl playing for NE by the Giants this past year??? Dominate - PASS RUSH BABY!!! Believe it. And we are talking the Giants not contending but winning all the marbles... sure there is tacktics to beat this and beat that. But the game was ment to be played in the trenches and that is where the Giants won the game. The year before that what did the Colts do... when into the trenches and won the game.

When its all said and done its the pass rush that will win the SB more than not. You don't let a good offense have control and time, they will eat you alive, pick you apart and take your marbles and you go home with empty pockets and no one will want to play with you.
