Are DE W. Smith and C. Grant worth the Salary Cap Room?

When considering the draft needs for the Saints; and if you assess every position for the Saints; consider the money tied up (potentially) in Will Smith and Grant; What happens if Vernon Gholston falls to the Saints? Are DE W. Smith and C. Grant worth the Salary Cap Room?

I don't see Gholston falling past the Jets, however, I have seen crazier things happen (i.e. Brady Quinn falling as far as he did). I just don't see cap space being a big issue for the present time.

I don't think either deserve major money. They are one deminsional players however I think W Smith migh be able to apply pressure as he develops more. Just being able to stop the run and not being able to blitz doesn't make you deserve that kind of money.

That guy will not fall to the Saints.

If by any chance Gholston drops, you take him. He'll be the BPA at 10. There's nothing wrong with having an abundance of talent at DE. Remember that Gholston is fast enough to play standing up... he's not regulated to DE. Think Adalius Thomas.

To me he is the most like Terrell Suggs. He'll be that dominate and a huge playermaker for years to come.

There is no way Gholston falls to 10 but if he did we wouldn't hesitate to take him. I think Gholston will be one of the most coveted players on draft day. He is a very unique player because he is a perfect fit for either a 3-4 or 4-3. How many players can you say that about? The Jets and the Pats are dreaming about having him at OLB so there is no way he falls. You might even see a dark horse trade up to get him.

I for one would love to see Verno in a Saints uniform. We would have so many options along the line. On third and long we could move Grant and Smith inside to DT and have McCray and Gholston at end. Maybe then we could get to the QB!

I voted for neither, if we Sign Smith to big money we will have two DE's makin a lot of money but are average players.

I say sign em and keep em until you got better. You can always trade a DE

Dont be surprised if Grant is with another team real soon.

I said neither.

However, I'm very optimistic about this season. Ed Orgeron likes light, fast, agile linemen. I expect him to put them on a diet. In my estimation, excessive weight is all that has been holding Grant and Smith back.

Give Smith and Grant a little help up the middle and they can be a force.

If by some miracle this guy does fall that far we should have some nice trade offers to move down. Do you trade the pick and move down or take VG and trade W. Smith and move down?

Seen the comments on Gholston and, well, consider this...

Chiefs would make a great partner for the Saints to trade up to grab Vernon Gholston (if they so desired)...

The Chiefs probably don't like what they have at five...

And they would like to protect their dollars invested in Larry Johnson...

And so could they could pick their long desired replacement for Willie Roaf, a solid O Lineman at Pick 10 without paying Top 5 money...

Also like the comment by Papz regarding nothing wrong with abundance of talent...

The Bears created a 46 Defense and went to a Superbowl, so have enough talent to create mismatches (and havoc) and you have yourself a solution to your Defensive Woes...

+1

These guys are quality but have had nothing playing with them on defense. I think the addition of all of the FA talent and by trading up for Dorsey/Ellis will make a huge difference.

As for that pick falling to us, Cinny will take him right before us.
